What Are Uterine Fibroids?
Benign tumors which consist of smooth muscles
developing inside the uterine wall are known as
uterine fibroids or leiomyoma.
3
What are the symptoms of this ailment?
Symptoms of uterine fibroids include 1. Heavy
menstrual bleeding   2. Pelvic pressure and/or
pain   3. Constipation
4
4. Frequent urination   5. Difficulty in emptying
your bladder   6. Backache or leg pains   7.
Prolonged menstrual periods- seven days or more
of menstrual bleeding
5
What is myomectomy?
Myomectomy or fibroidectomy is an advanced
surgical procedure used to remove uterine
fibroids. Unlike hysterectomy, in this method the
uterus remains intact so that female reproductive
capacity is not ruined.
6
When Does A Person Needs Myomectomy?
The presence of fibroids does not mean that it
needs removal. However, a surgery for removing
becomes essential when patient suffers from
severe pain or abnormal bleeding or if the
fibroids interfere with reproduction.
7
How is Myomectomy Performed?
Myomectomy can be performed in a number of ways
based on the location and the number of tumors.
laparotomy is one of the methods used for
myomectomy. This surgery is performed under
general anesthesia by an experienced surgeon.
8
How is Laparotomy Performed?
  • Laparotomy is performed under general anesthesia.

9
  • The surgeon makes a single cut through the skin
and muscle of the abdomen, so that the underlying
    tumors can be viewed vividly.

10
  • The uterus is pulled out so that the fibroids
    present inside can be removed.

11
  • Uterine fibroids are removed by using a surgical
    device known as myomectomy screw.

12
  • After this removal, the surgeon acts to repair
the uterus so that it heals well and regains its
capacity. Often it is closed in two or more
layers so that it can withstand the pressures of
    future childbearing.

13
  • Once the surgeon is done with the repairing
process, the uterus is closed in layers.

14
  • Laparotomy is the most ideal option in case of a
    large number of fibroids.

15
The fibroids are on the display that have been
removed. It helps understand the appreciation of
scale.
