    rock climbing. A hobby that she developed over
    the past few years. Owing to her weight she was
    always discouraged to do it and it would often
    trouble her. But going against the odds, she
    signed up for a beginners class in an indoor rock
    climbing gym. She took the classes and it has
    been many years now that she has been doing
    indoor rock climbing. She overcame her fear of
    height and even lost weight during the process.
    It is a good way to experience adrenaline rush
    but with all the safety gadgets. A good activity
    that one may do with, friends, family, and kids.

  • According to her, in the beginning one has to
    face a lot of problems as loosing grips, feet
    slipping, one may even fall but the support
    system using ropes makes it a safe and secure
    activity. Being an amateur one has to learn about
    the equipment, the techniques, rock positions,
    and basic first aid. Wahiba says that the first
    few climbing sessions are tiring and brutal as
    the body is not that flexible. But with practice
    and time one gets use to working against gravity
    and does better. With time there is increase in
    motion and the climbing speeds up. It increases
    flexibility of the body and one does better.

  • Wahiba says that indoor rock climbing is a full
    body exercise as it makes use of ones entire
    body. It is a good way to keep remain active and
    strengthen muscles as it need a lot use of hands
    and arms. Hence it is necessary that one should
    do a lot of exercises to strengthen upper body
    especially arms to not get exhausted within just
    few minutes of climb. Initially she rappelled
    down a lot as she would get tired and lose
    strength but with time it improved. She now
    climbs to great heights with the use of right
    equipment and safety measurements.

  • Wahiba Zarveen says that more than anything else
    stamina, strength, and concentration are the key
    factors. She had a fear of height but wanted to
    learn indoor rock climbing to overcome it. Her
    family, friends have all been supportive in her
    initiative and helped her in achieving her dream
    to make this impossible task possible. She says
    that if she has done it ,everyone else can also
    do it. It is a fun activity that helps one to
    stay fit and active..
