1. Group Therapy
This where they clients would all get together
each day (sometimes divided by gender) and have a
therapist lead them through group discussion.
They would dissect various issues.

2. Counseling or Therapy
This is where a client would meet with a
therapist and discuss things privately relating
to addiction and recovery and any side issues
that they might have.

3. 12 Step Meetings
Most treatment centers (though not all of them)
bring in 12 step meetings such as AA or NA from
the outside in order to have their clients attend
meetings.  Some addiction treatment centers take
the clients out to real meetings on the outside,
too.  Treatment centers that use an alternative
to 12 step programs usually have some form of
group therapy in their place.

4. Outpatient Therapy
This would be where the drug addict or alcoholic
comes into treatment maybe 3 to 5 days per week,
attends all lectures and groups, and then returns
to their home each night rather than stay in the
residential treatment center.  This is obviously
cheaper than inpatient rehab but not as safe in
terms of avoiding temptation and relapse.

Other Treatments
  • There are other forms of treatment out there, but
most of the other ones are pretty rare.  For
    example,
  • Equine therapy with horses
  • Medication therapy

Find What Works for You
One of the important things for recovering
addicts to grasp a hold of is to find what works
for them and then leverage that in their
recovery.  For example, if one on one counseling
sessions seem to really help a person, then they
should not be steered away from this and think
that they need to focus exclusively on group
therapy meetings in order to recover.  They
should use what works best for them, and what
will help them to grow the most.
