  Hitler and proclaims "peace for our time."

Korea. 1949 The Soviet Union successfully
explodes an atomic bomb. Cold War tensions
increase.

• June 25th - North Korea attacks several strategic
  points along the 38th parallel and heads south
  toward Seoul.
• President Harry S. Truman quickly commits
  American forces and names Gen. Douglas MacArthur
  Commander of the U.N. forces.
