- Total Area of Lesotho is 30,400 square kms
- Decrease of arable land from 13 to 9 in 30
years - Annual soil loss of 40 tonnes/ha/year
- Youth unemployment of 65-70
- Increase in rural-urban migration
3ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS IN LESOTHO
- Soil erosion
- Periodic prolonged drought
- Scarcity of water
- Increasing rural and urban poverty
- Pollution of land and water
- Low environmental awareness
- Weak institutional capacity
- Lack of youth participation in land management

- To address the serious problem of environmental
degradation in Lesotho, whilst also engaging
youth in environmental management and land
rehabilitation

degradation - To provide hands-on training of the youth (future
generations) - To increase the number of potential trainers on
environmental issues at community level
