Henrietta King
  • Henrietta and Richard King became owners
    of the King Ranch.
  • Henrietta King was a wife, mother, and ranch
    owner, she also helped families of
    Mexican-American ranch hands and gave money to
    many schools and charities.
  • Henrietta became one of the richest women in
    Texas and the King Ranch is now said to be larger
    than Rhode Island.

  • Thurgood Marshall was the grandson of a slave, he
    helped end legal separation of slaves in the
    United States.
  • Being African American kept him from going to
    college but he was still the first African
    American to join the U.S govt.

Amelia Earhart
  • Amelia Earhart was the first woman to fly an
    airplane across the Atlantic.
  • She flew all alone. Her trip was long and
    treacherous, she ran out of fuel 100 miles from
    Howland Island and was never found.

  • He had used a small steam engine from England and
    made a hull similar to that of fast ocean ships.
  • The boat did not work at first however, after a
    few adjustments to the engine, the boat was on
    its way to Albany.

  • She became an abolitionist and women's suffrage
    leader, often giving personal testimony about her
    experiences as a slave.
  • After the Civil War ended, she worked tirelessly
    to aid the newly-freed southern slaves. She
    continued preaching and lecturing until ill
    health forced her to retire.
