Summary
  • The existing integrated main grid transmission
    system was developed to optimize Western load
    resource patterns and diversity
  • Capacity delivery transmission developed between
    Phoenix and along the West Coast
  • Energy delivery system developed in East Side of
    the Western Interconnection
  • While load growth has occurred in many Western
    States, major new transmission and generation has
    not been added in the last several years
  • New proposed existing generation additions are
    primarily gas-fired
  • Transmission infrastructure additions are needed
    to allow integration of new East Side wind and
    thermal resources into the Western Interconnection
