Title: Modern Burial System Incorporating tradition, dignity and asthetics

1
Modern Burial SystemIncorporating tradition,
dignity and asthetics
  • Prepared byJames MartinChief Executive Officer
  • Rockele Pty Ltd trading as
  • Modern Burial System

2
Modern Burial SystemTraditional Cemeteries -
Disadvantages
  • 2128 graves per hectare
  • 4256 burials per hectare
  • Exhumations can be a real problem
  • Bad odours permeate through soil
  • Soil dries out and cracks
  • Rain can cause delays
  • Vandalism

3
Modern Burial SystemTraditional Cemeteries -
Disadvantages continued
  • Unsightly
  • Family circumstances can cause reduction in grave
    site maintenance
  • Restricted to suitable soil types (no rocks or
    clay)
  • Generally valuable land has to be used
  • Two year loss of site if a grave caves in

4
Modern Burial SystemAdvantages
  • 3344 crypts per hectare (60 greater burial
    capacity)
  • 13376 burials per hectare(300 greater burial
    capacity)
  • No odour or soil cracking
  • Very little vandalism
  • Rain has no effect
  • Dignified

5
Modern Burial SystemAdvantages continued
  • Any soil type
  • Exhumations are easier to complete
  • Reduced maintenance
  • Better utilisation of available space
  • Flush memorials are available at extra cost
  • Aesthetic

6
Modern Burial SystemAdvantages continued
  • Beam style headstone option is available with no
loss of gravesites. (Crypt lid machinery has to
be adapted at an extra cost.)
  • Complies with Workplace Health and Safety Act
    (Australia)
  • No cave ins
  • Each site is uniquely identified

7
Modern Burial System
  • World patents being attended to
  • Modular
  • Any soil type
  • Contaminated soils
  • high water tables
  • rocky soils
  • Creates two crypts for each module used
  • 1999 Innovation in Local Government Award

8
Modern Burial System
  • Prepare site with 3 slope
  • Install drainage
  • Construct footings to engineering design
  • Fill between footings
  • using crushed granite, or
  • other suitable aggregate

9
Modern Burial System
  • Align modules bolt together
  • Seal all joints
  • horizontal
  • vertical
  • Honeycomb configuration
  • Creates two crypts for each module installed

10
Modern Burial System
  • Custom fabricated end and side panels are bolted
to the honeycomb configuration of modules to
    complete the crypts
  • Install vertical seal

11
Modern Burial System
  • Place lids on modules
  • Cover lids with
  • 50mm coarse river sand
  • 200mm of sandy loam top soil
  • Turf
  • Complete landscaping
  • Install stainless steel identification disk

12
Modern Burial System
  • Identification of the crypt is by means of a
stainless steel disk, mounted flush with the
    ground surface
  • This disk is connected via a stainless steel
threaded rod fastened to the lid of each crypt

13
Modern Burial System
  • Optional headstone mounted directly to the crypt
    lid
  • Lid lifter has been redesigned to allow for the
removal of the optional headstone and lid in one
    operation

14
Modern Burial System
  • Flush mounted plaque directly bonded to crypt lid
  • Above head or alternatively above heart

15
Modern Burial System
  • A mobile gantry hoist attached to a small tractor
is reversed up to the gravesite
  • The crypt lid lifter is sold as part of the
    package
  • Optional self-propelled gantry hoist is presently
    being designed

16
Modern Burial System
  • Steel template frame is laid out over the
gravesite, centred using the stainless steel
threaded rod as a guide, and locked in position
using a quantity of steel stakes driven into the
    ground

17
Modern Burial System
  • A custom fabricated power spade is used to cut
the turf and top soil down to lid level
  • The spade is powered by the tractors hydraulics

18
Modern Burial System
  • Template to locate the three lifting points is
centred and locked in position by means of two
    locating pins
  • Lifting point soil sods are removed using a golf
    turf hole cutter

19
Modern Burial System
  • The mobile gantry is now reversed over the crypt
  • The three belt winches are attached to the lid,
and tensioned by hand prior to the lid removal
    and transportation

20
Modern Burial System
  • The covering soil and lid are lifted free of the
    crypt opening
  • The four hydraulic lifters fabricated as part of
the mobile gantry lift the lid and soil in one
    piece
  • The gantry, with lid, is then moved out of sight

21
Modern Burial System
  • The site is now aesthetically pleasing for a
    solemn occasion
  • No unsightly mound of soil or other consequences
    of traditional internement

22
Modern Burial System
  • The prepared gravesite is
  • Traditional
  • Dignified
  • Aesthetic
  • A standard lowering device can be used
  • Coffin rests in contact with mother earth, as
there is no floor in the crypt

23
Modern Burial System
  • Once the mourning party has left, soil is placed
over the coffin (to a depth of 100mm or 4 inches)
    using the mobile hopper
  • Soil mix consists of quality top soil with with
    humus and organic waste
  • Soil mix is spread around the sides and top of
    the coffin

24
Modern Burial System
  • The mobile gantry with the lid and soil is
    centred over the open crypt
  • The lid and soil are gradually lowered into
    position
  • The grave site is restored to almost pristine
condition minutes after the mourning party has
    left
