Todays Vision
  • Overall Mission
  • Shared Vision
  • Outcome Driven
  • Analyze Assessment
  • As we let go the machine models of work, we
begin to step back and see ourselves in new ways,
to appreciate our wholeness, and to design
organizations that honor and make use of the
    totality of who we are.
  • -Margaret Wheatley

7
That was then, This is now!
  • THEN
  • Assessments that limit the frame of reference by
which people will judge the system.
  • Assessments that signal that personal knowledge
and experience are of little worth.
  • The conception of curriculum instruction and
assessment as separate entities in a system.
  • NOW
  • Assessments that assist learners in
    understanding, expanding, and considering
    alternative frames.
  • Assessments of knowledge being produced from
    within the learner.
  • Communicating that the learners personal
knowledge and experience is of great worth.

8
Getting the Job Done
  • Changing paradigms requires time and courage!
  • Administrators, teachers, students and parents
need to work collaboratively in order to
    accomplish the desired outcomes.

9
Hitting the Mark
  • Establish clear performance targets.
  • Strive for authenticity in products and
    performances.
  • Publicize criteria and performance standards.
  • Provide models of excellence
  • Teach strategies explicitly
  • Use ongoing assessments for feedback
  • and adjustment.
  • Document and celebrate progress.

10
Unit ScenariosStaffing The Way We Were
  • Teachers were hired to fill-in-the blanks within
    a schools faculty.
  • Teachers could be expected to teach outside their
    realm of expertise.

11
Staffing Look At Us Now!
  • Teachers are placed into positions within
    certified disciplines.
  • In hiring school staff, leaders identify teachers
who have knowledge and experience with the
    inclusion model, differentiated learning,
    technology and curriculum framework integration,
    and authentic assessment.

12
Scheduling Lost Time
  • Teaching occurred in isolated classrooms.
  • Each teacher only used time given and no more.
  • No time was utilized for teacher collaboration
    and the sharing of ideas.

13
SchedulingMaking the MOST of our time
  • To teach with authentic assessments, teachers are
    able to
  • Meet in teams and design interdisciplinary
    lessons.
  • Have students for longer time frames.
  • Work cooperatively with each other and team teach.
