1On September 25, 2004, Jews around the world
observed Yom Kippur, the day of repentance.
2The day before, Jewish activists from the
International Womens Peace Service in the West
Bank offered the settlers of Ariel and Tapuach a
new penitential prayer for the holiday.
3Using the format of the traditional prayer, we
named a sin for each letter of the alphabet. We
posted the prayer in and around settlements near
the Palestinian village where we live and work.
4The prayer reflects and reinforces the collective
responsibility inherent in Judaism. Accepting
this, we have used the language of we and not
they or you.
5The following are sins that have been committed
by settlers in the name of the Jewish people. The
voice you will hear singing is nine-year-old Arwa
from the village of Jayyus.
