  • I am writing to you because, often, by the time
I meet students interested in attending a
selective college, it is too late for them . . .
  • Students may think that the high school classes
they choose dont matter as long as their grades
are strong. Nothing could be further from the
    truth.
  • Its important to take the most challenging
courses you can and participate in activities you
    enjoy.
  • Nanette H. Tabouni
  • Director of Admissions
  • Washington University in St. Louis

3
  • IB Diploma candidates take college-level
coursework in six subject areas over a two-year
period. Currently, FDHS is able to offer

    perspectives
  • Uses resources from within FDHS and the community
to expand students views and perceptions

  • Creativity includes organizing projects and
    taking part in artistic ventures

    carrying out projects

community as well as service to a wider, more

Class CAS Project 2007 - 2008 The Memory Project
  • IB Art SL students painted portraits of orphans
in Kenya and Iraq (2007) and Nicaragua (2008)
from photographs provided by The Memory Project
  • Students organize and host a gallery for the
community to display the portraits and collected
donations to help offset the cost of delivering
    the portraits to the children
  • Many art students received correspondence from
the orphans, thanking them for taking the time to
    draw their portraits
  • IB students also write and illustrate childrens
    books for shelters in Uganda

10
Extended Essay

with a faculty mentor in researching and writing
    a 4,000-word essay

that faculty members can meet students to work

Growth in FDHS IB, 2001 - present

  • The first college course that I ever attended
began with the professor asking everyone in the
class to stand Those of you who took college
prep or honors classes, please sit down. More
than two thirds of the class sat down with
bewildered looks on their faces. Those of you
who took AP courses in high school, you may sit
down as well. As I looked around, I noticed
that myself and two other individuals were the
only ones still standing. The professor
continued, If you are still standing, then you
will do exceptionally well in college. You know
what it means to be a well-rounded student you
know how to strive for academic success and most
importantly, you know how to deal with the
academic pressures that college will undoubtedly
bring. Congratulations you were a college
student before you got here. I know that the IB
    Programme made sure of that.
