Introduction
  • Adventure sports require leaders trained not
    only in policies and procedures, first aid and
    the technical aspects of the individual
    activities, but also in group dynamics, customer
    service, instructional skills, and conflict
    resolution to name a few.

  • Many of these same skills are needed by campus
    recreation program staff members.

Program?
  • The Leadership Training Initiative began with 6
    sessions.
  • It is currently comprised of 20 individual
    sessions.

    they attend with a minimum number of sessions
    required each semester.

    be fun and interactive with minimal lecture time
    and an emphasis on discussion and experiential
    learning.

    sessions, they will become LTI facilitators and
    train other employees.

  • All outlines are laid out in a similar manner so
    students are familiar with the format. (IDEAS)

LTI Training Outlines
  • Each starts with an introduction and overview of
    the training session.
  • Concepts are actively demonstrated with a group
    activity.
  • The LTI topic is explained in context of the
    activity.
  • The group then applies the concept to other
    situations.
  • Finally, the concepts are reviewed and
    summarized.

However
  • The Leadership Training Initiative is not meant
    to replace traditional orientation, on-the-job,
    and other standard training programs. It is
    meant instead, to complement those programs and
    to build on the basic skills needed to meet job
    requirements.
