Regional Skills partnership
  • Strategic Purpose is to bring together the key
    agencies and
  • sectors in the region
  • to work in partnership
  • to give collective leadership to the skills
    agenda in Yorkshire and the Humber
  • to improve skills outcomes and productivity on a
    demand-led basis for the region, aligned with the
    Regional Economic Strategy (RES).

Regional Skills Priorities
  • Tackling worklessness by supporting individuals
    into training and jobs.
  • Fact Yorkshire and the Humber has a high number
    of economically inactive groups, including lone
    parents, BME and older workers (26 working age
    population)
  • Increase participation of 16 19 year olds in
    education/work based learning.
  • Fact Yorkshire Humber has the largest
    percentage of NEET in England which are
    significantly at risk of long term economic
    inactivity

  • Increase proportion of people with skills needed
    for employment and support individuals to
    progress to include Higher Level Skills.
  • Fact The qualifications of the population of
    Yorkshire Humber are below the national
    average, with a significant percentage with no
    qualifications. Whilst the focus may have been on
    tackling basic skills and up to level 2, to
    support individual progression and upskill the
    regional labour force, there is an increasing
    business demand for develop HLS.

Yorkshire Humber Framework
  • Phase 1 Scoping work to identify the extent to
    which skills, employment and education issues cut
    across the Yorkshire Gold Strategy and associated
    action plans.
  • Phase 2 Determining the structure for a skills
    task group and working with the RSP to agree
    governance and outline Terms of Reference.
  • Phase 3 Consulting with partners in the region
    to develop a Framework for Action

  • Upskill the regions sports, health and fitness
    workforce to widen participation in sports and
    promote active lifestyles
  • Develop procurement skills to encourage more
    regional businesses to tender for major events
    and public sector contracts
  • Maximise opportunities of WorldSkills 2011 / UK
    Skills competitions to foster skilled and
    competitive young people
  • Ensure adequate investment in elite coaching
    skills / training camp workforce to provide
    world-class services to athletes / competitors
  • Use of sport and culture within educational /
    learning environments to encourage more people to
    succeed, achieve and participate
  • Enhance higher level skills, specifically
    leadership and management skills, in the region
    inspired by 2008/2012 Games successes

Skills, Employment and Education 2012 Core Group
and Network
  • The purpose of the Yorkshire and the Humber 2012
    Skills Employment and Education Core Group (and
    Network) will be to ensure that the region
    creates a lasting skills, employment and
    education legacy as a result of the London 2012
    Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, including the
    Cultural Olympiad.
