Entering Competencies and Individual Development
Plans (IDPs) into Employee Self-Service (HRMN)

- Log into Employee Self Service
- Navigate to the Employee/Manager Performance
Management Main Menu screen - Click the Create/Update an Uncertified Plan button

The Plan Menu appears showing the name, process
level, and current position of the employee.

The most current rating period shows in the
Select Rating Period area
6Creating the Plan
A benefit of the Performance Management System is
the ability to copy the competencies and
objectives from a previous plan to use in a new
plan
7Creating the Plan
- If you use the copy previous plan feature, you
will - see the competencies objectives of the
previous - plan and be able to make changes to them
- If this is a new employee, or the first
performance - plan using this system, there will be no
data to - copy until the first performance plan and
review - have been completed and certified
Remember, you can always paste information into
the plan from another application or employees
plan.
8Creating the Plan
To begin creating the first performance plan in
the new system, you will need to select the
competencies that will be evaluated for this
rating period. To do this, click the
Competencies button.
9Creating the Plan Selecting Competencies
The Selected Competencies Screen appears showing
any competencies required for all employees in
your class. Use Select/Add Competencies button
to customize the competency to the position.

The Select/Add Competencies screen appears. Any
competencies listed on the previous screen will
already be selected on this screen.

How do I know which competencies to use? Use
those competencies identified for your critical
job role. The list is located in the
Professional Development Strategy information on
TechTalk. Ask your manager if you are uncertain
on what fits you most closely.
To add a competency click the box to the left of
the competency
To save, click the Save Selections to Plan
button

When you return to the Selected Competencies
screen, only the competencies you selected on the
previous screen will be listed

You will be prompted to verify the change Click
OK to save changes to the Selected Competencies
The competency you selected will be deleted from
the Selected Competencies screen

Descriptions
The Full Description button next to each
competency provides additional information/details
about the competency This text box is
informational only and cannot be modified

To delete a competency, click the check box under
the Delete column to the right of the competency
Then click the Save Changes to Current Plan
button

The Comments button allows you to add additional
comments to the competency The comments should
be specific to the job

To enter comments, click in the text box
You are limited to 10,000 characters, including
spaces, for this text box To Save, click the
Save Comments button Then click the Back to
Selected Competencies button

The Development Plan button allows you to add
development details to the competency

To enter development plan details, click in the
text box You are limited to 10,000
characters, including spaces, for this text
box To Save, click the Save button Then click
the Back to Selected Competencies button

If there are comments, a red asterisk () will
appear next to the Comments button to indicate
that comments have been added
After completing this section of the performance
plan, click the Save Changes to Current Plan
button then the Return to Plan Menu button

Print your Performance Management Plan for a
written document that includes both your
Performance Management Plan and your Individual
Competency Development Plan.
