- Students must demonstrate an understanding of a
reading passage - Explain key ideas

- Scored with state holistic rubric

Students answer a question designed to elicit an
extended response from our Harcourt reading

14Extended-Response Binder Contents
- My Documents- The student creates a new document
or edits a document in progress.
15Entering and Editing Text
- Students input text directly or copy and paste
from a word processing program. Save to post
the response in My Folder.
16Teacher Comments
- When teachers log on, they see available student
extended-responses in the binder.
17Comments about Student Writing
- To add a private comment, click on the yellow
comment button.
18Teacher Comments
- Type the comment into the box and save it. The
student will use the comment to revise his
writing.

The teachers comments are only visible to the
author.

- The student clicks on the pencil to edit his work.

- When the student is satisfied with his response,
he can decide to let others read and respond to
it.
