Economic Development
  • The economic vitality is the determining factor
    for such issues as job creation, affordable
    housing and neighborhood revitalization, and the
    overall condition of the City as a whole. The
    City shall define goals and objectives how best
    to go about improving the Citys economic value.

Population Trends
  • Hays County population grew 229 between 1960 and
    2000, based on U.S. Census Bureau data.

    Demographer develop population projections for
    Texas Counties based on different growth
    scenarios
  • Population projections for Hays County predict
    2040 population increases of
  • 34 (low growth scenario)
  • 186 (moderate growth scenario)
  • 488 (high growth scenario)

Population Forecast
  • Migration from Travis County to Hays County will
    continue to be strong, as will in-migration from
    outside the region.
  • The U.S. Census Bureau identified the population
    of Hays County at 97,589.
  • Projections show the population of the County
    reaching just over 573,916 by the year 2040
  • The largest growth is expected in the Buda/Kyle
    area which could see a rise in population of some
    114,000 people. Not far behind will be the
    Western portion of Hays County which is expected
    to see an increase of some 64,000 people by the
    year 2030 an increase of some 297 percent from
    the year 2000.

    create a strategic plan and target market study
    for the community.
