HISTORY OF PAS
  • October, 1978, Jerry Lamers, led the process of
    establishing a state organization in Iowa
  • Informing the community college presidents and
    the vocational/technical deans on the
    establishment of a national organization and the
    steps that were needed to establish a state
    organization started the process.

  • On October 27, 1978 in the Pine Room of the
    Memorial Union on the campus of Iowa State
    University, over 30 college students and staff
    from 9 area schools attended the first meeting to
    address the benefits and concerns of a state
    organization.
  • Those attending strongly recommended to move
    forward and organize activities on the state
    level.

  • A second planning meeting was held November 29,
    1978 at Des Moines Area Community College in
    Ankeny.
  • Through workshops, those attending identified the
    activities and events for the organization and
    selected a state committee to plan the first
    state conference.

  • In February of 1979, the first state leadership
    conference for postsecondary agricultural
    students in Iowas community and vocational
    technical colleges was held.
  • The first national conference for the National
    Postsecondary Agricultural Student Organization
    was held in April of 1979

  • The 1980s saw tremendous growth and advancement
    of Iowa PAS
  • Many community colleges participated and each
    year the number of students increased.
  • Many conferences and events were held all over
    the state by many active community college
    chapters.

  • The 1990s saw increased growth and expansion
  • Iowa was host to two national conferences
  • 1995 Cedar Rapids
  • 2000 Des Moines

  • On February 2nd, 2006, Iowa PAS celebrated its
    25th Anniversary with a banquet that celebrated
    the past while looking forward to a promising
    future
  • Past members and advisors came together to get
    reacquainted and reflect on the past
