Our Purpose
  • To introduce exciting, supplemental, reliable and
    timely materials which health educators can use
    to meet the No Child Left Behind mandate
    through experiential learning and career
    exploration.

Our Methodology
  • We will illustrate how Nebraska-made 4-H
    curricula provide ideal alternatives through
    research-based options which are affordable and
    easily accessible.
  • These materials are currently available to
    educators and schools through the Universitys
    Extension System.

What is Fast Foods?
  • Curriculum designed for 11-14 year olds, though
    is easily adaptable to younger or older
    audiences.
  • A place where anyone can learn to cook

  • Food literacy is lacking
  • Not enough time to cook
  • Families are not sitting down together to eat
  • Many career opportunities exist in the foods
    industry.

Why YOUth in Motion?
  • By the time youth reach high school, just 1 in
    every 5 engages in sufficient levels of moderate
    physical activity, vigorous physical activity,
    and strengthening exercise.
  • In the U.S. 1 in every 6 students in grades K-12
    is overweight while an additional 1 in every 6 is
    at risk for overweight.
  • As the number of obese individuals increases, so
    does the number of physical and emotional
    problems.
  • The financial cost of obesity in the U.S. is
    nearing 78.5 billion in medical expenses per
    year.
  • Obese adults are 50 to 100 more likely to die
    prematurely.
  • Major implications for employers and employees
    now and in the future!
