Title: Living in Liberty Fighting the Flesh

1
Living in LibertyFighting the Flesh
  • Galatians 51,13
  • The High Calling of Living
  • In Gospel Freedom

2
Galatians So Far
  • The One True Gospel
  • The Authentic Apostle
  • The Cross and the Christian
  • The Sons of Abraham
  • The Purpose of the Law
  • The Sons of Slavery and the Sons of Freedom

3
Live in Liberty!
  • GAL 51 It was for freedom that Christ set us
free therefore keep standing firm and do not be
subject again to a yoke of slavery.

4
Fight the Flesh!
  • GAL 513 For you were called to freedom,
brethren only do not turn your freedom into an
opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve
    one another.

5
Never Compromise the Gospel
  • Colossians 121-23
  • And although you were formerly alienated and
hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He
has now reconciled you in His fleshly body
through death, in order to present you before Him
holy and blameless and beyond reproach -- if
indeed you continue in the faith firmly
established and steadfast, and not moved away
from the hope of the gospel that you have heard

6
Our Responsibility
  • ROM 141-4 Now accept the one who is weak in
faith, but not for the purpose of passing
judgment on his opinions. One person has faith
that he may eat all things, but he who is weak
eats vegetables only. The one who eats is not to
regard with contempt the one who does not eat,
and the one who does not eat is not to judge the
one who eats, for God has accepted him. Who are
you to judge the servant of another? To his own
master he stands or falls and he will stand, for
the Lord is able to make him stand.

7
Care for the Weak
  • ROM 1413-17 Therefore let us not judge one
another anymore, but rather determine this -- not
to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a
brother's way. I know and am convinced in the
Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself but
to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him
it is unclean. For if because of food your
brother is hurt, you are no longer walking
according to love. Do not destroy with your food
him for whom Christ died. Therefore do not let
what is for you a good thing be spoken of as
evil for the kingdom of God is not eating and
drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in
    the Holy Spirit.

8
Living Between Lawlessness and Legalism (the
Flesh)
  • Legalism
  • Dishonors Christ by attempting to add to His
    finished work
  • Does Not Pursue the Righteousness of Christ
    through Faith
  • Lawlessness
  • Dishonors Christ by not living in light of His
    finished work
  • Does Not Pursue the Righteousness of Christ
    through Faith

9
How Do We Live in Between Legalism and
Lawlessness? Live in Gospel Love
  • Love Abides in the Finished Work of Christ
  • Love Obeys
  • Love Seeks the Good of the Other

10
1 Dont Become a Lawgiver
  • 1CO 45-6 Therefore do not go on passing judgment
before the time, but wait until the Lord comes
who will both bring to light the things hidden in
the darkness and disclose the motives of men's
hearts and then each man's praise will come to
him from God. Now these things, brethren, I have
figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for
your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to
exceed what is written, so that no one of you
will become arrogant in behalf of one against the
    other.

11
2 Use Your Liberty to Edify the Body of Christ
  • 1Corinthians 134-6
  • Love is patient, love is kind and is not
jealous love does not brag and is not arrogant,
does not act unbecomingly it does not seek its
own, is not provoked, does not take into account
a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in
unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth

12
3 Fix Your Eyes on the Definition of Love --
Jesus
  • 1 John 316 -
  • We know love by this, that He laid down His life
for us and we ought to lay down our lives for
    the brethren.
