Title: HE IS NO FOOL who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose Jim Elliot Forest Hill
1HE IS NO FOOL who gives what he cannot keep to
gain that which he cannot lose - Jim

2Types of People in Proverbs
- Fool the person who rejects Gods laws and
refuses to keep his covenant. Foolishness, of
folly, is a moral failure, not an intellectual
one. - Wise the person who carefully maintains
his/her relationship with God and follows his
ways. This persons life is characterized by
wisdom. - Simple the person who is not mature enough to
know the difference.
3The Principle of the Open Hand
- I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends
for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will
be welcomed into eternal dwellings. Luke 169. - One man gives freely, yet gains even more...
Proverbs 1124. - You fool! This very night your life will be
demanded from you. Then who will get what you
have prepared for yourself? Luke 1220.
4Father, let me be weak that I might lose my
clutch on everything temporal. My life, my
reputation, my possessions, Lord, let me loose
the tension of the grasping hand. Rather, open
my hand to receive the nail of Calvary, as
Christ's was opened that I, releasing all,
might be released, unleashed from all that binds
me now. - Jim Elliot
5When life's flight is over, and we unload our
cargo at the other end, the fellow who got rid of
unnecessary weight will have the most valuable
cargo to present to the Lord- Nate Saint
- Let us throw off everything that hinders and the
sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with
perseverence the race marked out for us. Let us
fix our eyes on Jesus. Hebrews 121, 2.
6I am a soldier at war and I have got to live
like one. I want to be abandoned completely to
the son of Man who is Lord of all and even
questionable things must be sacrificed to utter
obedience. I need, O God, the purposeful
aloneness of Daniel who in his heart, without
demonstrable necessity, 'purposed'. Thus before
God I purpose. I have to lay aside every weight.
God help me for thy further Glory! - Pete
Fleming
7The Principle of Expendability
- ... I urge you, brothers, in view of God's
mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices,
holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual
act of worship. Rom. 121. - ... Unless a kernal of wheat falls to the ground
and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if
it dies, it produces many seeds. John 1224. - ... Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And
we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.
1 John 316.
8During the last war we were taught to recognize
that, in order to obtain our objective, we had to
be willing to be expendable... God Himself
laid down the law when He built the universe. He
knew when He made it what the price was going to
be. God didn't hold back His only Son, but gave
Him up to pay the price for our failure and sin.
- Nate Saint
9Father, take my life, even my blood, if Thou
wilt, and consume it with Thine enveloping fire.
I would not save it, for it is not mine to save.
Have it Lord, have it all. Pour out my life as
an oblation for the world. Blood is only of
value as it flows before Thine altars. - Jim
Elliot
10Missionaries constantly face expendability.
Jesus said, 'There is no man that has left house,
or brethren, or sisters, or mother, or wife, or
children, or lands for my sake and the Gospel's
but shall receive an hundred fold now in this
time and in the world to come eternal life.'
- Nate Saint
11I am longing now to reach the Aucas... I would
gladly give my life for that tribe if only to see
an assembly of those proud, clever, smart people
gathering around a table to honor the Son
gladly, gladly, gladly! What more could be given
to a life? - Pete Fleming
12If there's nothing to this business of eternal
life we might as well lose everything in one
crack and throw our present life away with our
life hereafter. but if there is something to it,
then everything else the Lord says must hold true
likewise. - Ed McCully
13It's kind of like putting all your eggs in one
basket, but we've already put our trust in Him
for salvation, so why not do it as far as our
life is concerned? - Ed McCully
14Ever since I accepted Christ as my personal
Savior last fall and wanted to follow Him and do
the will of the Lord, I've felt the call to
either missionary, social or ministerial work
after my release from the service. Can't say now
what the calling will be but I want to be a
witness for Him and live following Him every
second of my life. - Roger Youderian
15The Principle of the Full Life
- I have come that they may have life, and have it
to the full. John 1010. - God saw all that he had made and it was very
good. Genesis 131. - Since the creation of the world God's invisible
qualities his eternal power and divine nature
have been clearly seen, being understood from
what has been made. Romans 120
16Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt
every situation you believe to be the will of
God. - Jim Elliot
17Throughout all our personality we are God's, and
since God has made our whole selves, there is
great joy in realizing who is our Creator. This
realization is to permeate every area of life.
In appreciation of beauty, mountains, music,
poetry, knowledge, people, science even in the
tang of an apple God is there, to reflect the
joy of His presence in the believer who will
realize God's purposes in all things. - Pete
Fleming
18I have one desire now to live a life of
reckless abandon for the Lord, putting all my
energy and strength into it. Maybe He'll send me
someplace where the name of Jesus Christ is
unknown.Man, to think the Lord got hold of me
one day before I was to register for law
school! - Ed McCully
19I used to say, ' This is a great world.' With
this new faith, this feeling has increased a
thousandfold. and I fairly ache within from
happiness and rejoicing in sharing God's manifold
blessing which He gives to this world with
infinite mercy and grace. - Roger Youderian
20Thank God for the liberty of the position in
Christ it allows a man to be a man, allows him
joyfully to live in the life that he must live in
(in the circumstances). It places spirituality
in reach. I am not forever in Romans 7 trying to
get into Romans 8 I am right now alive unto God,
aware that the Spirit fights for me against the
flesh... And I am ready to praise and to
intercede. Thank God I am not a slave any more
to an unrealistic and unbiblical spiritual ideal
I am alive now to live to God's glory, to center
my life and my thinking around Christ, to walk in
the Spirit now. Amen. My spirit, rise up and
bless God! - Pete Fleming
21The Principle of Discipleship
- Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed
your feet, you also should wash one another's
feet. I tell you the truth, no servant is
greater than his master, nor is a messenger
greater than the one who sent him. John 1314,
16. - In the same way, any of you who does not give up
everything he has cannot be my disciple. Luke
1433.
22I have got to be trained as a slave, committed
to my brothers without reserve not caring who
does the work or who gets the credit for it, but
only that God does it and gets praise for it.
Like Christ, Who when He received 'all things' of
the Father, took the disciples' feet in His hands
and washed them. - Pete Fleming
231. The true disciple is industrious. He works
diligently for the supply of his current
necessities and those of his family.
- He who works his land will have abundant food,
but he who chases fantasies lacks judgment. -
Proverbs 1211 - The sluggard craves and gets nothing, but the
desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
Proverbs 134. - Wife of Noble Character She watches over the
affairs of her household and does not eat the
bread of idleness. Prov. 3127.
242. The true disciple is frugal. He lives as
economically as possible so that everything above
immediate needs can be put into the Lord's work.
- Wife of Noble Character She sees that her
trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go
out at night. Prov. 3118. - At the present time your plenty will supply what
they need, so that in turn their plenty will
supply what you need. 2 Corinthians 814
253. The true Disciple is foresighted. Instead of
accumulating wealth on earth, he lays up his
treasures in heaven.
- Do not store up for yourselves treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. - But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven
where moth and rust do not destroy, and where
thieves do not break in and steal. - For where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also Matthew 619-21
264. The true disciple trusts God for the future.
Instead of giving the best of his life to the
building up of reserves for old-age security, he
gives his best to the service of Christ and
trusts Him for the future.
- So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or
'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' - For the pagans run after all these things, and
your heavenly Father knows that you need them. - But seek first his kingdom and his
righteousness, and all these things will be given
to you as well. Matthew 631-33.
