• Today 835M suffer from chronic hunger due to lack
  of nutrition education and health
• 300m are children 2/3 are girls

What are the greatest challenges faced by the
school feeding programmes In your country?

• Hong Kong students have one hour for lunch
  but they eat fast so they can play.
• USA research shows scheduling recess (play
  time) before lunch has positive results on
  lunch consumption.
• France family style eating regulates time for
  eating. Food is served in courses.
• Greece Breaks at school allow students a time
  to buy from street vendors or go home.
• Children coming to school hungry.

School Feeding in the USA

• Meal Service Periods
• Length of meal service period usually less than
  20 minutes for lunch
• Open campus (students can leave school to buy
  lunch or eat at school.
• Food Safety
• Serving It Safe National exam sponsored by
  National Restaurant Education Foundation
• Training each district conducts their own
  training programme.
• Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point
  (HACCP) programme.
• Vision
• Healthful meals and nutrition education for ALL
  children.
• National Participation Statistics
• 58 students enrolled eat lunch
• 59 receive free / reduced price lunches
• 21 student eat breakfast
• 29 million meals per day
• 8 million breakfasts per day

School Visit to Eastport ElementaryAnnapolis

• Menu available was Pizza or a Sandwich
• Pizza manufactured solely for the School meals
  service throughout USA.
• Portion size was standard as per age group
• Kitchen was well equipped
• Large walk in freezers and fridges

World Food Programme

• WFP fed 17million last year by creating new
  school feeding programs in under developed world
• Girls are given rewards for attending school i.e.
  oil and flour
• One aim is for each of us to register our support
  and encourage others to do so

• Every five seconds someone dies with hunger
  (probably a child)
• Walk the world event in May 21 2006
• Support by creating your event in your schools

• Resolution is to look at school feeding, not as a
  charity, but requiring total community

• Poverty levels in Ghana does not allow for
  children to attend school never mind receive
  school lunches
• We are working with the World Food Programme to
  develop a school feeding programme that not only
  will provide nourishment, but will reward the
  family for allowing children to attend school

• My Goal is to encourage government to face the
