Dispensational Theology
  • Successive Stewardship Arrangements Each
dispensation is a test of mankind to be
faithful to a particular revelation at a given
time. Mankinds failure in one dispensation
    necessitates a new one.
  • Literal Interpretation of Scripture
  • Distinction between Israel and the Church
-Promises to Israel were not intended as
prophecies of what God will do spiritually for
the church, but will be literally fulfilled by
Israel itself (primarily in the millennium ex.
    land).

14
Covenant Theology
  • Covenants not Dispensations Each covenant is
not a test of mankinds faithfulness, but
rather a different administration of the single,
    overarching covenant of grace.
  • Covenant of Grace promise of redemption and
eternal life to those who will believe in the
(coming) redeemer. Does not set aside other
covenants, but fulfills them (through Christ)

Comparing Covenant and Dispensational Theology
  • Covenant
  • 1 people of God
  • 1 plan for them
  • Saved by grace thru faith in Christ or in His
    work to come
  • Church began in Adam
  • Israel has forfeited covenant rights
  • Law still applies
  • Millennial kingdom is spiritual b/c Christ is
    already reigning
  • Dispensational
  • Israel and Church
  • 1 plan for each
  • Saved by grace thru faith in God (different
    object in each disp.)
  • Church began at Pentecost
  • Israel will receive all covenant promises
  • Law for Jews only
  • Millennial kingdom is literal and Christ will
    reign in Israel
