Title: 20082009 Adult Planning Meeting

1
2008-2009 Adult Planning Meeting
  • Troop Committee Business
  • Budget
  • Positions
  • Advise those scouts who are at life on Eagle
Projects and following up with Life Scouts for
    requirements.
  • 2nd go to person for committee needs
  • Coordinate adults for monthly merit badges.
  • Trailer Discussion, (still have the funds, is it
    still worth getting a trailer?)

2
  • Program side of things
  • Calendar outings and people to take charge
  • Program Positions
  • Inform adults at least 1 month and half prior to
outing to assist in planning. Has documents to
help with planning. Sets up google documents.
Ensures those who went get recorded in database
    record.
  • Organize and help scouts who are not taking merit
badges to rank advance, work toward eagle
project, conduct a leadership class, clean
quartermaster, etc During the hour of merit
badge time. (Something different each Monday)
  • Survey Results, what should we start doing?

3
Survey Result Discussion
  • Input from Troop130 Adult Leaders all around,
what our troop should start doing?

4
Giving scouts too much freedom. If the kids are
not there for merit badge classes they should be
cleaning out the shed, office, community service
for the church. I have found the scouts doing
inappropriate activities during this down time.
5
Include the cost of adult leaders on weekend
trips in the scouts cost for the
activity.!Discuss!
6
  • I believe making a push to sell more flag/holiday
service to residents of Golden would be a simple
and yet fruitful addition to the troop.

7
  • The more planning in advance, the better. The
spring break trip was cancelled somewhat at last
minute, as I remember. That was a disappointment
since our family was plannning on having our son
attend the campout. Other activities also seem to
come up at last minute. Since we both work, we
tend to plan in advance as much as possible,
including packing time for campouts. While last
minute plans are fine, you will lose
participation the less planning time the parents
    get.

8
  • Better structured activities during the meeting
time, more community service, a behavior/abuse
class so kids stop hitting other scouts, a trail
to Eagle workshop, an Mentor program with Scouts,
a card that lets kids know what merit badges they
will receive for the Court of Honor.

9
  • Maybe some backpacking, although I dont know
whether my scout would want to participate. But I
think it is physically and spiritually invaluable.

10
  • Two things Better define how and when
advancement can take place and include adults in
recreational activities like dodgeball (if the
adults are to act as guides for a Boy-Led-Troop,
the scouts need to know them and feel comfortable
    around them).

11
  • The scouts, I think, do not often choose some of
the one day outings. They are told what is coming
up and then they choose whether to attend or not.
If they got to pick some simple get to know you
outings (Water World, Rockies Game etc.) some
scouts might be more interested. They are the
ones who have to come up with these ideas though,
    not the adults.

12
  • I know that Venture Crew 130 is operated as
separate entity, but I would like to see more
information about the Venture Crew activities
during the Troop meetings and/or e-mail. I think
that in order for the older boys to stay
interested in scouting they need to be aware that
there are other high adventure activities that
they could participate in with the Venture Crew.
(Maybe I just need to get on the right mailing
    list.)

13
  • I have a hard time finding the lady to buy King
Soopers and Safeway cards. Could she advertise or
announce or something so that we can plan to
purchase these on a regular basis? I am not real
clear on how much money is in my sons scout
account since the garage sale etc is there a way
    to find that info?

14
  • Letting the boys know what the benefits from each
outing. If they will earn certain things toward
rank or badges or It might help them choose
    which ones to go on.

15
  • When meeting for outings, have some sort of
    checklist to facilitate packing, organizing
riders with drivers, loading up and hitting the
    road as quickly as possible.
  • Organizing Quartermaster and Office space.
