Title: JA In Your Classroom

1
JA In Your Classroom
  • Guidelines Tips for Teachers
  • (Elementary Middle Schools)

2
Teacher Do List
  • Call or email your volunteer within one week of
receiving your assignment and be responsive to
    their attempts to contact you.
  • Remain in your classroom (or have another
school-sanctioned employee such as a substitute
or aide) remain in your classroom during the
    presentation
  • Our volunteers are not required by JA to have the
mandatory background check required by Kentucky
state laws to be in the classroom alone.
  • Our volunteers may need assistance with
discussion on the program, handing out materials
    or grouping the students.
  • Our volunteers may need help with classroom
    management issues.

3
Teacher Do List
  • Notify or have someone contact your volunteer and
JA if you plan to have a substitute in your class
during the scheduled JA program. Rescheduling
your JA session is not required however if the
volunteer and/or teacher are uncomfortable to
continue the JA session due to this circumstance,
    it may be rescheduled.
  • Notify your volunteer if an event, assembly,
field trip or any other school function will
prevent you from keeping your JA program on the
scheduled date. Remember to reschedule this
    missed session.

4
Teacher Do List
  • Notify the JA office if you feel anything may
hinder the completion of the program in your
classroom. This includes notifying the JA office
if your volunteer fails to show up for a
scheduled JA session!!! Students benefit more
from the program if they are able to complete all
    lessons.
  • Thank your volunteer, either verbally or in
another manner, to make them feel special! You
may also choose to have your students thank the
    volunteer as well.

5
State National Correlations
  • Every few years, 3M sponsors correlations in all
50 states for JA programs. The most recent
correlation for Kentucky was completed in 2006
    and Indiana was 2005.
