General information about MDGs

• The first report of MDG implementation has been
  submitted to the parliament for discussion and
  has been approved in 2005, and have organized
  activities to disseminate it to the public
• Mongolian parliament has approved the renewed
  MDGs through the 25th resolution of the
  parliament in 2005 with 9 goals and 22 targets.
• The parliament of Mongolia has assigned the
  government to report MDG implementation every 2
  years.

The summary of activities from parliament and
government for the implementation of MDGs

• According to the 25th resolution in 2005,
  Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), the National
  report of MDGs for 2005-2006 has been prepared
  by the government and researchers, which has been
  approved by the government and has been submitted
  to the parliament for discussion.
• This is the document that compiles the
  evaluations and assessment of the current
  situation of MDGs implementation of Mongolia.

• With an assistance from UN consultants, Mongolia
  has finished the needs assessment for the
  implementation of MDGs within the framework of
  working group of line ministries. Overall, it is
  estimated that approximately 14 billion
  us.dollars are required to implement the MDGs
  until 2015.
• The working group has been assigned from the line
  ministries to update this needs assessment for
  every 2 years.

• First steps are initiated to implement MDGs at
  rural levels
• Within this framework, with an assistance from
  UNs Poverty, information monitoring project 4
  aimags and 2 districts have been chosen for
  experiment.

The purpose of 2nd report

• To evaluate monitor the process of the
  implementation of MDGs through 2005-2006
• to disseminate the official information and
  statistical indicators of the implementation to
  the public,
• To bring more attention on the issues of
  implementing MDGs from related counterparts,
• and finally to reflect them in the policies and
  activities

HUNGER REDUCTION
Target 1. To halve the share of population below
poverty line by 2015 compared to year 1990.

Target 2. To halve the number of population with
malnutrition by 2015 compared to year 1990.

The Millennium development goals implementation
is regressing at rural areas.

• Although 2 aimags were removed impossible to
  implement category comparing to year 2000, 6
  aimags were added in this category
• Therefore, it is required for every other
  province to approve and implement the MDGs.

FURTHER ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED

• To improve and approve the 25th resolution of the
  parliament in 2005, to improve some of the
  indicators and develop indicators for targets
  without the indicators
• To harmonize and link MDGs with sector policies,
  financing, and budget
• To determine the indicators by the final outcome,
  including additional indicators and develop a
  structure to disseminate them at both regional
  and national level in a timely manner.

• To reduce the differences in MDGs implementation
  in rural areas, the enhance the implementation
• To continue working on MDG needs assessment and
  develop the financial strategy, and to make it
  more effective
• To harmonize policies with activities and targets
  with undetermined policies, activities and with
  no outcomes has to be placed under high
  surveillance and it is highly required to
  intensify the activities for the successful
  implementation.
