1
Passover
  • Messianic Significance

2
Passover - Messianic Significance
  • How did Yeshua fulfill this Feast?

3
Yeshua, the Passover Lamb
4
John (Yochanan)
  • The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said,
"Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin
    of the world! John 129
  • John combined the concepts of Pesach with the Yom
Kippur. Passover didnt take away any sin, Yom
    Kippur did!

5
1 Peter 119-20
  • "But with the precious blood of Messiah, as of a
lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed
was foreordained before the foundation of the
world, but was manifest in these last times for
    you"

6
Yeshua Fulfilled TANAKH
  • 25 And He said to them, "O foolish men and slow
of heart to believe in all that the prophets have
spoken! 26 "Was it not necessary for the Christ
to suffer these things and to enter into His
glory?" 27 Then beginning with Moses and with all
the prophets, He explained to them the things
concerning Himself in all the Scriptures…
  • Luke 24

7
Yeshua Fulfilled TANAKH
  • 44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which
I spoke to you while I was still with you, that
all things which are written about Me in the Law
of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled." 45 Then He opened their minds to
understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to
them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would
suffer and rise again from the dead the third
day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of
sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the
nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Luke 24

8
Matthew 517-18
  • "Do not think that I came to destroy the Torah or
the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to
fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven
and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will
by no means pass from the Torah till all is
    fulfilled.

9
The Passover Lamb Exodus 12
  • 3 "Speak to all the congregation of Israel,
saying, On the tenth of this month they are each
one to take a lamb for themselves, according to
their fathers' households, a lamb for each
household… 5 Your lamb shall be an unblemished
male a year old you may take it from the sheep
or from the goats. 6 You shall keep it until the
fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole
assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill
    it at twilight.

10
Lamb without Blemish
  • On the tenth (today) of Nisan the priests
carried the lambs for the Passover sacrifices
into the Temple, as commanded by God (see Ex.
123). The lambs were then examined for four days
and if no blemish or defect could be found, they
qualified for the sacrifice and were killed on
    the fourteenth (Wednesday).

11
Yeshuas Fulfillment of the Lamb
  • Yeshua the Lamb went up to Jerusalem on the tenth
of Nisan, and for four days was questioned and
examined by the chief priests, elders, Pharisees,
and Sadducees. However, He always left them
speechless, because they could find no fault with
His impeccable logic and character (Matthew
2123-27 2223-46 and in the end no fault could
be found in Him by the highest authority in the
    land (ref. Luke 234,14 John 1838, 194,6).

12
The Perfect Sacrifice
  • Therefore, He was the perfect, complete and
    qualified sacrifice.

13
Lambs Killed at Twilight
  • He was slaughtered with all the other lambs that
same day at 300 p.m. on the 14th of Nisan
    (Wednesday).

14
Yeshua Dies at Same Time Matthew 27
  • 46 About the ninth hour (3 p.m.) Jesus cried out
with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA
SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE
YOU FORSAKEN ME?" 47 And some of those who were
standing there, when they heard it, began saying,
"This man is calling for Elijah." 48 Immediately
one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled
it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave
Him a drink. 49 But the rest of them said, "Let
us see whether Elijah will come to save Him." 50
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and
    yielded up His spirit.

15
Day of Preparation for the Shabbat
  • Then the Jews, because it was the day of
preparation, so that the bodies would not remain
on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was
a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might
be broken, and that they might be taken away.
  • John 1931

16
For the Passover Shabbat NOT the Weekly Shabbat
  • Now it was the day of preparation for the
Passover it was about the sixth hour. And he
said to the Jews, "Behold, your King!"
    John 1914

17
The Shabbat of Passover/Unleavened Bread could
fall on any Night of the week!
  • Does not have to be on a Friday night!
  • This year, it is Monday night!
  • Last year, it was Wednesday night!

18
Yeshua could NOT have been killed on a Friday!
  • There IS NO Good Friday!
  • WHY NOT???

19
Three Days AND Three Nights
  • …for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE
NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will
the Son of Man be three days and three nights in
the heart of the earth. Matthew
    1240

20
Need Some Math Skills Here!
  • How many days did Yeshua say He would be in the
    earth?
  • How many nights did Yeshua say He would be in the
    earth?

21
Now…If Yeshua were Crucified on Good Friday
  • Count how many days it was from Friday to Sunday!
  • Now, count how many nights it was from Friday to
    Sunday!

22
Friday Crucifixion
  • From Friday to Saturday you have two nights
Friday night and Saturday night. You do not even
have a partial night on Sunday, since He arose
    BEFORE dawn on Sunday morning.

23
Do You Get…
  • 3 days AND three nights???
  • If you count a part of Friday and Sunday as
complete days, then you have Friday, Saturday and
    Sunday.
  • So you can fudge it and call it three days from
    Friday to Sunday!

24
But you can NEVER
  • Get three days and three nights from a Good
    Friday death to the Resurrection!

25
This is NOT Nitpicking Scripture!
  • A sign HAS TO be complete in its fulfillment, or
it is NOT a valid sign!
  • Good Friday does NOT work!

26
When the Church walked away from its Jewish roots
  • …it lost the correct understanding of the other
Sabbaths found in the Torah (Leviticus 23).
  • If you get rid of the Authority of the Foundation
(Old Testament), you can make the New Testament
    say anything!

27
So, Lets Count BACKWARD from the THIRD Day!
  • We KNOW from Scripture when He rose! He rose on
the 1st Day of the Week!

28
ALL Hebrew Days of Week are NUMBERED, except the
7th Day Shabbat!
  • Now after the Sabbath (7th Day), as it began to
dawn toward the first day of the week, Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary came to look at the
    grave. Matthew 281

29
1st Day of the Week
  • The first day of the Week begins at sundown on
    Saturday evening (after Shabbat)

30
Yeshua Rose Sometime BEFORE Dawn on 1st Day of
the Week!
  • But on the first day of the week, at early
dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices
    which they had prepared.
  • Luke 241

31
Count Backwards Yeshua rises!
  • 1st Day of the Week Begins Saturday Night
  • After Sundown

32
Count Backwards Third Day
  • Shabbat Day Saturday

33
Count Backwards Third Night
  • Shabbat (7th Day) Friday after Sundown

34
Count Backwards Second Day
  • Friday

35
Count Backwards Second Night
  • Thursday after Sundown

36
Count Backwards First Day
  • Thursday

37
Count Backwards First Night
  • Wednesday after Sundown

38
Yeshua Killed on Wednesday Day
  • Yeshua was killed at twilight on Wednesday, 14
Nisan! Fulfilling the Passover lamb Scriptures
    of the Torah!
  • He was put in the earth just before the Sabbath
(not the weekly seventh-day Sabbath! Rather, the
    Sabbath of Passover/Unleavened Bread)!

39
Yeshuas Sign
  • Needs to Fulfill 3 Days AND 3 Nights!

…for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE
NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will
the Son of Man be three days and three nights in
the heart of the earth. Matthew
1240
40
He Rose again on Firstfruits!
  • Another Moed listed in Leviticus 239-14!
  • We talked about that last Shabbat!

41
Another Question
  • When did Yeshua Celebrate His Passover with His
    Talmidim?
  • If Yeshua died when the Passover lambs were
slaughtered as we said, how was it that He
celebrated Passover with His Disciples the night
    before He was killed?

42
When did Yeshua Celebrate His Passover with His
Talmidim?
  • Clues from Scripture Luke 22

7 Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on
which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. 8
And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and
prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat
it." 9 They said to Him, "Where do You want us to
prepare it?" 10 And He said to them, "When you
have entered the city, a man will meet you
carrying a pitcher of water follow him into the
house that he enters.
43
Water Carrying Womens Work!
  • Genesis 2411-20 Rivkah.
  • John 47 Yeshua and the Samaritan woman at the
    well.
  • Still that way in some parts of the Middle East
    today!

Men did not draw water! Except ONE group of men
the Essenes!
44
Only Essenes did NOT have Women
  • By the western shores of the Dead Sea, but
away from their harmful effects, live a solitary
people, the Essenes, wonderful besides all others
in the world, being without any women and
renouncing all sexual desire, having no money,
and with only palm trees as companions.
    Pliny the Elder, Natural History
    51873

45
Community Property
  • The Essene sect also did not hold property in the
community as private property. All within the
community had access to use the property of the
    community.

46
Essenes held all things in common with one
another.
  • When they enter the sect, they must surrender
all of their money and possessions into the
common fund, to be put at the disposal of
everyone one single property for the whole
    group. Flavius Josephus

47
Luke 22
  • 11 "And you shall say to the owner of the house,
The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest
room in which I may eat the Passover with My
disciples?"' 12 "And he will show you a large,
furnished upper room prepare it there." 13 And
they left and found everything just as He had
told them and they prepared the Passover.

48
Jerusalem Communities
  • Essenes, besides Qumran, had communities in
    cities, such as Jerusalem.

Evidence that Essenes lived not only at Qumran,
near the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were
found, but also in Jerusalem comes from several
sources, including the scrolls themselves
(assuming the scrolls constitute an Essene
library). The famous War Scroll, which describes
an apocalyptic battle between the forces of light
and the forces of darkness, refers to the
sounding of trumpets when the victorious forces
of light "return from battle against the enemy
when they journey to the congregation (or
community ha-edah) in Jerusalem.
Jerusalems Essene Gateway Where the Community
Lived in Jesus' Time, BARGIL PIXNER, Biblical
Archaeological Review, May/June 1997
49
The Essenes Celebrated Passover on a Different
Time-table
  • Essenes celebrated their Passover the day before
the Temple (and the rest of Israel) did!

50
Yeshua celebrated His Passover
  • At the same time that the Essene community
celebrated its Passover the night BEFORE the
rest of the Jewish community celebrated theirs!

51
Yeshua Celebrated a Valid Passover
  • With His Disciples and was STILL able to be
offered up as a sacrifice the next day, as the
Passover lambs were killed in the Temple!

52
New Testament Scripture
  • Makes more sense in the light of its Hebraic
    roots!
  • If we take away the Hebraic understanding of the
New Testament, we lose the meaning of what God is
really telling us in His Word!
  • We in the Body of Messiah need to get back to the
Hebrew roots of our faith and not be content with
    tradition.
