Title: Schizophrenia: Examination of rehospitalization rates between antipsychotic therapy and mega vitamin

1
Schizophrenia Examination of re-hospitalization
rates between anti-psychotic therapy and mega
vitamin therapy
2
Introduction
  • 2 mathematical models
  • 1st mathematical model describes relationship
    between recurrent hospitalizations of diagnosed
    schizophrenics and antipsychotic drug treatment.
  • 2nd mathematical model describes recurrent
    hospitalizations of diagnosed schizophrenics in
    combination with mega-vitamin therapy
    (unconventional, orthomolecular approach).

3
Treatment(conventional)
  • Antidepressants
  • MAOI, SSRI, used to treat the negative symptoms.
  • Antipsychotic
  • Sedative and neuroleptics, used to treat positive
    symptoms.
  • Drugs such as clozapine inhibit dopamine, but can
decrease white blood cell count a life
threatening side-effect. These do not help simple
    or catatonic patients.

4
Treatment(unconventional)
  • Megavitamin Therapy
  • Supplements vitamin B 3, 6, 12
  • vitamin C, zinc and manganese
  • Balanced Diet
  • Psychological Therapy
  • Weekly meetings to discuss feelings, emotional
    state, and traumatic events
  • Family history analysis
  • Reduced Stress
  • Increases proper enzyme metabolism
  • More light and exercise

5
How data will be obtained
  • Based on a study that came out January 1st 2008
    where 21590 schizophrenics (from157 hospitals
across the nation representing 30873 total
    hospitalizations) were studied in conjunction
with anti-psychotic therapy and data collected
    from orthomolecular journals.

6
Purpose
  • The purpose of this mathematical modeling project
is to compare re-hospitalization rates for
    schizophrenics using anti-psychotic therapy with
    schizophrenics using mega-vitamin therapy.
  • Determine which therapy for schizophrenia has
    lower re-hospitalization rates.

7
Anti-Psychotic Therapy
  • Collect all data pertaining to diagnosed
    schizophrenics and their hospital visits.
  • In a recent study over 21000 schizophrenics were
analyzed over an 11 month period, representing
    over 30,000 hospitalizations.
  • Average length of hospital stay 10 days
  • 30 readmitted for related reason with 90 days
    of previous visit.

8
Factors affecting hospital stay with
anti-psychotic therapy
  • Type of anti-psychotic treatment (short or long
    acting)
  • Medication changes
  • Dosage changes
  • Initial use of short-acting psychotic treatment
was found to correlate with longer hospital stay.
  • The anti-psychotic study

9
Two antipsychotic medications examined
  • Risperdal
  • Clozapine
  • Look at which treatment has higher ALOS in
    hospitals, and rehospitalization rates.
  • A lot of data comparing these two treatments.
  • http//www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17891257?doptA

10
Orthomolecular Therapy
  • Orthomolecular Journals
  • Find data for readmission rates from these
    journals.
  • Nutritional deficiencies related to higher
average length of stay in Canadian hospitals.

11
Predictions
  • Schizophrenics using risperdal and their
    subsequent hospital readmission data.
  • Schizophrenics using clozapine and their
    subsequent hospital readmission data
  • Schizophrenics using mega-vitamin therapy and
    hospital data.
  • Compare and predict best treatment.

12
USA Schizophrenia TimelineBase line for insanity
in the USA is 4 cases for every 1000 people
13
Genetic risk for development of schizophrenia
  • Grandchildren 5 percent
  • Uncles aunts 2 percent
  • Half siblings 6 percent
  • Siblings 8 percent
  • Siblings with one schizophrenic parent 17
    percent
  • Children 13 percent
  • Fraternal twins 18 percent
  • Identical twins 48 percent
  • Offspring from two schizo. parents 47 percent

14
Ideal Treatment
  • 1) Treatment facility with high sunshine, high
    calcium and zinc in water
  • 2) Genetic Screening
  • 3) Allergy Testing (fasting)
  • 4) Sugar (per capita comparison)
  • 5) Adrenechrome reduction
  • 6) Mitigation of biochemical imbalances caused by
    genetic abberations
  • 7) Repairing the damage (brain atrophy associated
with less blood glutathione peroxidase, therefore
    supplement production with nutrients)
  • 8) Repair the soul
