Acts 2 42And they continued stedfastly in the
apostles teaching and fellowship, in the
breaking of bread and the prayers. 43And fear
came upon every soul and many wonders and signs
were done through the apostles. 44And all that
believed were together, and had all things
common 45and they sold their possessions and
goods, and parted them to all, according as any
man had need. 46And day by day, continuing
stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and
breaking bread at home, they took their food with
gladness and singleness of heart, 47praising God,
and having favor with all the people. And the
Lord added to them day by day those that were
saved.

Communion (Fellowship) with What in Lords
Supper?
15
1 Corinthians 10 16The cup of blessing which we
bless, is it not a communion of the blood of
Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a
communion of the body of Christ? 17seeing that
we, who are many, are one bread, one body for we
are all partake of the one bread. 18Behold Israel
after the flesh have not they that eat the
sacrifices communion with the altar? 19What say I
then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is
anything, or that an idol is anything? 20But I
say, that the things which the Gentiles
sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to
God and I would not that ye should have
communion with demons. 21Ye cannot drink the cup
of the Lord, and the cup of demons ye cannot
partake of the table of the Lord, and of the
table of demons.

Corinth Lords Supper

1 Corinthians 11 17But in giving you this
charge, I praise you not, that ye come together
not for the better but for the worse. 18For first
of all, when ye come together in the church, I
hear that divisions exist among you and I partly
believe it. 19For there must be also factions
among you, that they that are approved may be
made manifest among you. 20When therefore ye
assemble yourselves together, it is not possible
to eat the Lords supper 21for in your eating
each one taketh before other his own supper and
one is hungry, and another is drunken. 22What,
have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or
despise ye the church of God, and put them to
shame that have not? What shall I say to you?
shall I praise you? In this I praise you not.

bread or drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy
manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood
of the Lord.

Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that
the Lord Jesus in the night in which he was
betrayed took bread 24and when he had given
thanks, he brake it, and said, This is my body,
which is for you this do in remembrance of me.
25In like manner also the cup, after supper,
saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood
this do, as often as ye drink it, in remembrance
of me. 26For as often as ye eat this bread, and
drink the cup, ye proclaim the Lords death till
he come. 27Wherefore whosoever shall eat the
bread or drink the cup of the Lord in an unworthy
manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood

1 Corinthians 11 (cont.) 28But let a man prove
himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and
drink of the cup. 29For he that eateth and
drinketh, eateth and drinketh judgment unto
himself, if he discern not the body. 30For this
cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not
a few sleep. 31But if we discerned ourselves, we
should not be judged. 32But when we are judged,
we are chastened of the Lord, that we may not be
condemned with the world. 33Wherefore, my
brethren, when ye come together to eat, wait one
for another. 34If any man is hungry, let him eat
at home that your coming together be not unto
judgment. And the rest will I set in order
whensoever I come.

Radical Restoration by LaGard Smith Promotes
Popular Errors on Lords Supper

LaGard Smith on the Lords Supper
  • Without question, on the occasion of its
inaugural introduction -- there in the upper room
on the night Jesus was betrayed -- the memorial
was part of an actual meal being shared (129).
  • The Lords Supper gave meaning to their table
fellowship, and their table fellowship gave
meaning to the Lords Supper (133).
  • Actually implementing it according to the New
Testament pattern is another thing altogether,
particularly if we were to go all the way and
observe the Supper as an integral part of a
fellowship meal in the manner of the early
church. Can you imagine it? Virtually every
aspect of our Lords Day assemblies would be
    thrown into mass confusion! (141-2).

64
Smith Re. Lords Supper Passages
  • Acts 207 - The breaking of bread on that
occasion seems to have had the double connotation
of both meal and memorial. Whatever actual form
it took, it was a memorial in a meal (130).
  • 1 Cor. 11 - Here is where one must be careful
not to be thrown off track by Pauls ensuing
question Dont you have homes to eat and drink
in? (1122). Nor by his concluding line If
anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that
when you meet together it may not result in
judgment (1134). Far from prohibiting a
fellowship meal in conjunction with the Lords
Supper, it is clear that Paul is saying (in
current vernacular) If the reason you are
participating in the fellowship meal is to feed
your stomach, then youd do better to stay home
    and pig out! (131).

From Lords Supper Change...
  • You can be sure that having a first-century
fellowship meal as the backdrop for our Sunday
services would shatter our customary acts of
    worship (142).
  • One thing is certain those who object on
principle to having kitchens in the church
building would have to reconsider that position
from scratch. Knowing what we know about
    first-century fellowship meals, the question
isnt so much whether there ought to be a kitchen
in the church, but whether the church ought to be
in the kitchen. Or, put differently, whether we
should meet from house to house for combined
fellowship and worship as the early Christians
    did (142).
