Good News for Palliative Care
  • Palliative care continues rapid growth in
    hospitals with 96 increase in the last five
    years. According to latest AHA data
  • 30 of all hospitals have a program
  • 50 of hospitals with over 75 beds have a program
  • 70 of hospitals with over 250 beds have a
    program
  • 57 of hospitals with a cancer program approved
    by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) have a
    program
  • 75 of Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH)
    members have a program
  • 46 of hospitals in cities with a population of
    1-2.5 million have a program

  • 2-day visits, hands-on training, 1 full year
    distance mentoring at any one of six exemplary
    programs. Consistent, in-depth curriculum,
    different hospital settings and locations.
  • PCLC has trained 500 institutions in 2 ½ years
  • The program made all the difference. Because of
    what our staff
  • learned, our palliative care program has more
    patients, a larger budget,
  • and much more legitimacy throughout the hospital.
    It really helped to
  • have a leader in the field behind our efforts.
