RCSGSO 2007 Status Report

• Following the Call for Papers, 118 abstracts have
  been received by the deadline (31 Jan 2007) 3
  abstracts have been withdrawn during the
  abstracts evaluation period.
• The remaining 115 abstracts have been evaluated
  and 5, judged marginal by the Technical
  Committee, have been rescued by providing
  extended recommendations to the authors in the
  notification of acceptance.
• In general, the quality of the abstracts has been
  quite good and focused on the foci of the
  conference (Cost efficiency in Ground Segment
  Development and Operations)

• The Conference will be held at IKI (Moscow) in
  the week from the 11 June to the 15 of June 2007.
• A Social Program including a visit to a Russian
  Space Industry, Icebreaker on Monday evening, a
  visit to a Circus Show on Wednesday, and the
  Conference Dinner on Thursday is associated to
  the conference. In addition, being Monday and
  Tuesday Russian public holidays (Russian
  Independence), a firework can be enjoyed on
  Tuesday night over the centre of Moscow.
• The conference is declared as one of the events
  in the framework of the celebrations of the 50th
  anniversary of the launch of Sputnik which has
  marked the start of the Space Age.
• In the Opening Plenary, media presence is being
  organised by IKI the Plenary is organised with a
  welcome speech by the organising Agencies (IKI,
  Academy of Sciences and ESA as co-organiser),
  short welcome address by the Agencies
  participating, Speech by Prof. Chernyavsky
  Grigoriy Markelovich (pioneer in Space Operations
  and involved in the Sputnik Mission), a
  presentation by IKI of their activity in the
  field of Remote Sensing and a short presentation
  by Mr. Holdaway (RAL) of the history of the
  RCSGSO since its foundation.
• The Preliminary Programme of the conference is
  being published in these days in the conference

• Financial
• Secretariat services are provided to the RCSGSO
  by the ESA Conference Bureau (ECB) the level of
  support is similar to the support AIAA is
  providing to SpaceOps 2008 i.e. mainly remote
  support and in particular support via web to
  Announcements, Call for Papers, Paper handling
  and support to the Technical Committee,
  Registration including handling of conference
  fees etc. In addition the ECB provides budgetary
  setting-up and maintenance to the RCSGSO under
  the authority of the co-chairmen of the
  conference. The services of the ECB are financed
  via part of the conference fees.
• The ESA Publication division provides (as
  contribution in kind) the Book of Abstracts and
  the CD ROM with the conference proceedings.
• Within the above (and excluding Agencies internal
  manpower, as in any other conference organised by
  an Agency) the conference balances the budget
  with an attendance of 120 people paying a
  conference fee of 400 Euro.
