The Beginning
  • Began in England in the late 18th to early 19th
    Century
  • Economy based on manual labor was replaced by
    industry and the development of factory work

  • Began with the textile industry
  • The introduction of canals, improved roads, and
    railways increased trade
  • Introduction of steam power and powered machinery
  • The development of factories and assembly
    line-style production

Textile Innovations
  • Early 18th century British textile manufacturing
    was based on wool
  • Lewis Paul and John Wyatt patented The Roller
    Spinning Machine and The Flyer and Bobbin System
    in 1764 Later known as The Spinning Jenny
  • Made Textiles more even and uniform

  • Thomas Savery patented the first steam engine in

  • The first successful machine was the atmospheric
    engine, invented by Thomas Newcomen in 1712
