As you listen
  • What you are about to listen to is an actual
    recording of T.S. Eliot reading his poem, J.
    Alfred Prufrock.
  • On your notes from yesterday on Modernism, please
    write down words, images, phrases, and perhaps
    even entire lines that stand out as you listen.
  • When youre finished listening to the poem,
    please pick any three of your images/lines that
    relate to the topics of Modernism we discussed
    yesterday. Be sure to explain your connections.
  • When everyone is finished, share your thoughts
    with the class.

TPCASTT
  • Please open the two documents linked to todays
    in-class activities on the website calendar.
  • Use the TPCASTT method to work your way through
    Prufrock. You may work with a partner or by
    yourself.
  • Work slowly and carefully if you rush through
    it, you will be wasting your time. Be as thorough
    as you can be.
  • Try not to get frustrated this is a challenging
    poem, and Im looking forward to your
    interpretations.
  • If you do not finish in class, please finish for
    homework. If you do finish in class, please
    print your work and give it to Mrs. Summers.

Postsecret
  • If you finish your TPCASTT analysis before the
    end of class, you can start on tonights
    homework, which is to create two electronic
    Postsecrets One for Prufrock and one for
    Gatsby.
  • Think about it this way What secret is Prufrock
    subtly revealing to you through this poem? What
    secret would one of the characters (or Fitzgerald
    himself) reveal? Try to go beyond the obvious
    and use your creativity and your powers of
    inference.
  • If youre not too familiar with Postscret, take a
    look at the Postsecret link on the agenda.
  • Be ready to dropbox your postsecrets at the
    beginning of class tomorrow.
