Developmental Stages
  • 1) Sensorimotor Stage- (birth to 24 months) A
child does not know that an object is in
existence when out of sight. (object permanance)
  • 2) Preoperational Stage-(24 months- 7 years)
Child understands concrete situations instead of
    abstract views.
  • 3) Concrete Operations- 7-12 years) Child begins
to understand abstract views and sees things
    logically.
  • 4) Formal Operations- (12 years on) Childs
cognitive structures are like that of an adult,
    and include conceptual reasoning.

Educational Imapct
  • Curriculum- Educators must plan a developmentally
    appropriate curriculum that enhances their
    students' logical and conceptual growth.
  • Instruction- Teachers must emphasize the critical
role that experiences--or interactions with the
    surrounding environment--play in student
learning. For example, instructors have to take
into account the role that fundamental concepts,
such as the permanence of objects, play in
    establishing cognitive structures.
