Integration - Product Data Representation and
    Exchange. (Unofficially STEP)
  • 2) Parts Library Representation
  • ISO 13584 - Industrial Automation Systems and
Integration - Standard for the representation of
    standard parts (Unofficially PLIB)
  • 3) Manufacturing Management Data
  • (Unofficially MANDATE)

  • Develop an international standard for
  • the exchange of product data library
    information

Applications Driving Requirements
  • Automotive
  • Electronics
  • AEC

16
WG3 Product Modeling
  • Develop requirements and models
  • that define the information content
  • of STEP application or
  • product data subject areas
  • Fifteen Technical Teams
  • Each addressing different application or subject
    domains

17
WG4 Qualification Integration
  • Integrate STEP Integrated Resources Parts,
  • provide development guidelines, design and
  • usages of STEP Integrated Resources for APs,
  • enforce quality of all STEP Parts

18
WG5 STEP Development Methods
  • Establish methods used in the
  • technical development of STEP

One Project
EXPRESS
19
WG6 Conformance Testing Procedures
  • Establish procedures and criteria
  • for testing STEP processors for
  • conformance to standard

Four Projects
Conformance Testing Methodology and
Framework General Concepts Requirements
on Testing Laboratories and Clients Structure
and Development of Abstract Test Suites
Abstract Test Methods
20
WG7 Implementation Specifications
Develop specifications necessary for the
implementation of ISO 10303
  • Three Projects
  • Develop specification for exchange of data via a
    physical file
  • Develop Data Access Interface Specification
  • Provide information resources on STEP
    implementations, implementors and tools

21
WG8 Industrial Manufacturing Management Data
  • Identify and specify data used
  • within manufacturing enterprises
  • exclusive of product definition data

Three Projects Focus on the Data that Reside
within a manufacturing enterprises resource
database Is exchanged between manufacturing and
surrounding management activities Is used to
control and monitors the flow of material within
a manufacturing enterprise
22
JWG9 Electrical / Electronic Applications
  • Development of resources and Application
  • Protocols for electrical/electronic products.
  • Coordination of these activities with existing
  • standards such as EDIF, IGES, SET, VHDL, IPC and
    VNS

Joint effort between ISO TC184/SC4 and IEC/TC3
23
WG10 Architecture
Establish technical direction for SC4 and resolve
related technical issues.
  • Responsibilities
  • Define and maintain a consistent set of
architectures for the standards of SC4.
  • Develop SC4 Standard Architecture and Framework
    for methods.
  • Provide technical leadership across the standards
    under SC4.
  • Identify and implement necessary changes and
    enhancements to the architecture.

24
NISTs Role in STEP Development
  • NIST is the SC4 Secretariat
  • Sponsors US industry SC4 Chair
  • Provides the STEP On-line Information Services
(SOLIS), a service which makes all STEP and SC4
    information/documentation available
    electronically
  • Provides administrative support to US TAG, the
    formal US representative to SC4
  • Supports and coordinates industrial input and
    activity across multiple industrial sectors

25
IGES/PDES Organization (IPO)
  • US focal point for Product Data Standards and
    Technologies ANSI-accredited consensus standard
    organization
  • Membership domestic, participation international.
  • The US technical development body to STEP
  • Established in 1979, conducts quarterly meetings
    and maintains IGES
  • Projects are organized similarly to SC4
  • Principal management provided by NIST
    administrative support provided by USPRO

26
US Technical Advisory Group
  • US Body responsible (to ANSI) for establishing US
    Position on SC4 Ballots
  • US TAG Chair serves as US Head of Delegation to
    SC4 Meetings
  • Voluntary body small, official membership (20
    organizations) has membership requirements
  • Solicits organizes US ballot comments ballot
    coordinator responsible for organizing comments
