Issues

• Classical documents have a linguistic and a
  layout structure
• These structures are hierarchical but they cannot
  be reconciled into the same hierarchy
• Naming schemes are used to link to pieces of
  documents

• Existence of versions with no sequential or
  genetic relationship known
• Existence of translations, documents with the
  same structure but different content

• The two ends are both single units
• Associative Links Unpredictable relational

  a linear form

• Follow from the structure and content of the
  document
• Usually unidirectional, may have multiple ends
• Vocative Links invoke a document element by
  name e.g. dictionary entries

• Implicit Links Target name appears within the
  content of the source document (E.g. Dictionary
  lookup)
• Isomorphic Links Target name appears as element
  name in source document
• Tie together like-named elements
