Setting the scene
  • Overcoming horizontal and vertical segregation in
    the SET labour market, thereby reducing the
    gender pay gap is the key strategic aim of the
    UKRC
  • Established in 2004
  • Funded for 4 years to 2008 by the Government
    (Office of Science and Technology /Department of
    Trade and Industry)
  • Additional funding from the European Social Fund
    Equal programme for a national partnership
    project to 2007

  • To increase the participation and position of
    women in science, engineering and technology
    employment across industry, academia and public
    services in the UK

What kind of centre is the UKRC?
  • Strategic
  • Ensuring that considerations to the specific
    barriers to womens participation in SET are
    given in all related policies and practices, thus
    mainstreaming gender equality and occupational
    segregation issues.

    and desegregation agenda
  • Funding disburse grants, bursaries and fund
    projects
