Base Certification Documents

• Certification will initially be to the
  requirements of the NAHB Model Green Home
  Building Guidelines
• Certification to the requirements of the
  National Green Building Standard (NGBS) will be
  added when development is completed and the
  standard is published (this is where
  developments, M/F, and remodeling come in)

• In the summer of 2008, a new scoring tool based
  on the ANSI standard will be available
• Builders will have an option of certifying new
  single family homes to either the NAHB Guideline,
  or to the ANSI standard
• Builders will also be able to certify green
  subdivisions, multi-family, and remodeling
  projects to the ANSI standard

Verifiers

• The NAHB Research Center will establish
  national network of accredited verifiers for the
  certification program
• The NAHB Research Center will accredit all
  verifiers and offer training and testing
  services to individuals seeking to become an
  accredited verifier

Verifiers

• Verifier status is open to any individual that
  meets the program experience pre-requisites
• Employees of HBAs and builders seeking
  certification for homes under the program are not
  eligible to apply for verifier status
• All accredited verifiers will be charged a
  registration listing fee of 125 per year

Verifiers

• Verifier agrees to keep in confidence any
  information gathered from the builder during the
  verification process, including the results of
  the scoring
• Verifier will be spot-checked and audited by the
  NAHB Research Center

Verifier Qualifications

• Qualifications required of candidate verifiers to
  perform the duties above include
• 1 year of acceptable professional experience in
  home building and green building practices, OR
• 12 hours of acceptable green training, OR

Verifier Qualifications

• Designation by NAHB as a Green Building
  Professional, OR
• Professional certification from Green Advantage
  (USGBC), OR
• NARI Green Building Certification from National
  Association of the Remodelers Industry (NARI).
• LEED APs or HERS raters can be verifiers

Verifier Accreditation

• In order to become accredited by the NAHB
  Research Center, a candidate verifier must
• Maintain an appropriate knowledge base and
  skill sets for the NAHB Model Green Home Building
  Guidelines (and the forthcoming ANSI National
  Green Building Standard, once available)

Verifier Accreditation

• Complete all NAHB Research Center verification
  procedures training session, and pass a test on
  how to verify compliance to the program criteria.
  
• Sign a Verifiers Agreement
• Provide proof of insurance
• Pay the annual 125 verifier listing fee set by
  the NAHB Research Center

Verifier Accreditation

• Maintain appropriate records and be available
  for periodic audit of their verification process
  at least annually by the NAHB Research Center
• Attend an annual continuing education seminar
  approved by the NGBP
