Imagine yourself living in ancient Greece.  The
world as you know it has faded away.  There are
no telephones, no internet, no automobiles, and
no electricity! Life is hard, hectic and often
unexplainable things happen.  People are working
in the fields in the middle of the day when
everything goes dark, what is happening?  The
mountain that people are living on suddenly burst
into liquid flames, what could cause this? An
especially horrible event occurs and a large wind
tears the village apart, but why?  When in doubt
people look to the gods and goddesses to help
them understand what is happening.  That is where
YOU come in! This is your chance to become a god
or goddess!

Task 1
So it is official. You are becoming a god or
goddess from Greek Mythology. Weve been
learning about Greek Myths and now it is time to
do a little of your own research.
For this task you will use a variety of websites
from the resource page to conduct your research.
Use the following worksheet, So You Want To Be
Immortal to fill in all of the information you
find. Remember to read stories and find
interesting facts about your god or goddess, you
will use this information later.
If you arent sure as to which god or goddess to
choose, feel free to browse through websites till
you find one you like. No two people should have
the same god or goddess. See me when you have
made your choice.

Task 2
Now that you know who you are its time to get to
know the gods and goddesses around you! For the
second task you will use the interview worksheet
to interview at least four other classmates. You
will ask them the questions from your worksheet
and make notes on all of their responses. This
task will help you learn about other gods and
goddesses that you might not have chosen. Be
sure to ask each person about an interesting myth
in which their character was involved!

6
For this task you will be broken into groups.
You will remain with these group members for the
rest of the project. The first thing your group
should do is introduce yourselves (and by
yourselves I mean you as the god or goddess you
are!). Give a brief oral introduction to the
group and explain your character. Next as a
group you should complete the Who am I? Who are
you? worksheet. This worksheet will help you see
what your characters have in common and how you
are different. It will help you lay out a brief
history of everyone in your group.
Task 3
Now you should complete the Good guy or Bad Guy
worksheet. Think about how your characters would
get along if they had to hang out with each
other. What would be some problems? Who would
get along? Who would be enemies? Who are the good
guys and bad guys essentially?

Task 4
You have done a lot of work together at this
point. Now it is time to put that work to good
use! You have brainstormed three ideas for
writing a myth. It is time to choose one of
those ideas and run with it!
As a group you will develop your original idea
into a play! Thats right! You will write a myth
in the format of a play. Make sure that each
group members character is a part of the play.
Also, make sure that you stick to the elements of
mythology! We are using our characters to explain
something unexplainable about the world and/or to
teach an important lesson.
So, what do I expect of you? You should write
this play together as a group. I will collect a
final copy from you. It should be neat,
organized, edited, and published. But wait
theres more

There will be a
PERFORMANCE
Your group will present your play in a class
performance. You will be given one day to
rehearse in class after your play is written.
Performance days will be assigned at random.
Your performance should last from 4-10 minutes
and include props, costumes, music, etc... This
requires effort and will be worth two hundred
points. Your written play will be handed in on
the day of your presentation.
