Brief history of Meotne Palace
  • 1795 Catherine II, the Russian Empress, assigns
    the estate to Charlotte von Lieven, au pair of
    her grandchildren
  • 1797 The palace is built according to the
    design of Giacomo Quarenghi, St. Petersburgs
    architect
  • 1920 The palace is nationalised
  • 1936 The educational establishment settles in
    the palace

Brief history of Meotne Palace
  • 1944 The palace is seriously damaged during the
    WWII
  • 1959 An agricultural establishment settles in
    the palace and renovation begins
  • 1989 The restoration of the interior is
    completed
  • 1996 The palace comes under the authority of
    the State Real Estate Agency
  • 2001 The palace has resurrected after its
    complete reconstruction and restoration and is a
    popular recreation place in Latvia now

Architectural uniqueness
  • The front facade is emphasised by a four-pillar
    portico with a triangle pediment, whilst
    semi-rotunda underlines the façade of the park

  • The motif of tripartite or Palladian windows
    decorate the facade
  • The artistic expressiveness of façade is
    emphasised by Ionic capitals, sundries and
    crossings on pillars
  • The dome hall is the most significant classicism
    premise in Latvia and its design was inspired by
    the Roman Pantheon

  • Today the palace is fully reconstructed and
    restored and has become a multi-functional public
    place. It comprises the castle museum, hotel,
    splendid ballrooms, restaurant, café, conference
    premises, etc.

  • Unique hotel rooms are decorated with antique and
    original furniture, engravings, drawings and
    lamps to convey the spirit of the 19th 20th
    century
  • Each room is decorated differently to reflect the
    chronology of the early days of the palace. You
    will find the rooms named Traveller, Rose room,
    Memories, Sleeping Beauty, Nostalgia, Safari,
    Hunters, Schubert and many more in Meotne Palace

  • The palace is surrounded by the most well-kept
    English landscape parks in Latvia
  • From the terrace and windows of the castle the
    far horizons of remote and beautiful sceneries
    are revealed

    marvellous high river bank of the Lielupe
