We will introduce scientific satellite data
archiving activities in Japan, being carried out
primarily at JAXA/ISAS. Since1970's, ISAS has
been launching small or medium-size astronomy,
solar-terrestrial physics (STP), and solar
physics satellites. In 1997,ISAS has started
scientific satellite data archives "DARTS" (Data
Archives and Transmission System
http//darts.isas.jaxa.jp). At DARTS, we
archive most ISAS satellite data taken after late
1980's. Currently, ISAS's three STP satellites,
two astronomical satellites and one solar
satellite are operational, and these data are
being archived at DARTS. In 2003, ISAS and two
other space agencies (NASDA and NAL) merged, and
Japan's sole space agency "JAXA" has established.
JAXA is capable of launching larger scientific
satellites such as the lunar orbiting mission
SELENE (SELenological and ENgineering Explorer),
which is planned to be launched in August 2007.
The lunar and planeta exploration is going to be
one of the main projects of JAXA. We will present
our plan of archiving SELENE and other future
lunar and planetary data at JAXA.

Past and current Japanese astronomical satellite
data are archived Ginga, ASCA, Suzaku (X-rays),
IRTS, Akari (infrared), HALCA (Radio)
Yohkoh and Hinode solar satellite data are
archived. Hinode archives will be publicly open
in May 2007.

SELENE Archives http//www.selene.jaxa.jp
SELENE (SELenogical and Engineering Explore) is
the most sophisticated lunar exploration mission
in the post-Apollo Era. SELENE consists of the
main orbiter and two small satellites the Relay
satellite and the VRAD satellite.

The main orbiter will observe the distribution of
the elements and minerals on the surface, the
surface and sub-surface structure, the gravity
field, the remnant of the magnetic field and the
environment of energetic particles and plasma of
the Moon. SELENE is planned to be launched in
summer 2007

Future Planetary Database at JAXA

SELENE database has been constructed by the
project team. We are planning to develop a new
multi-mission planetary DB based on the SELENE DB
design using a PDS compatible data structure

stp/cef/cef.cgi Choose periods (and satellite or
observatories), then you can browse various kinds
of data stored in the database all over the world
very easily.
Bepi Colombo MMO will explore the mercury
magnetosphere. Contribution to ILWS is
desired. Collaboration with Solar Orbiter, Sun
observations, Cross-Scale mission, etc. Current
Planetary DB (PDS) is not suitable for this
topic, and the interoperability with heliospheric
plasma science DB is required. Method to
realize the interoperable DB must be considered.
Current Problems and Requirements
Scope of DB should include not only the public
use but also use for the mission teams data
processing. - Simpler protocols are desired.
Mission teams dont want to be burdened
with DB. - Sometimes, detailed access control
is required. Interoperability with neighboring
science field is desired. - Existing DB
resources should be inherited. - It is better
to define the I/F methods for interoperability.
