  • House Bill 4460 (Act 197, Public Acts of 2006)
  • Signed June 29, 2006
  • Requires schools (K-12) to perform 2 drills in
    which occupants are restricted to the interior of
    the building and the building secured appropriate
    to an emergency such as a hazardous materials
    release (shelter in place) or intruder on or near
    premises (lockdown)
  • MSP-EMHSD shall develop a model to be used by a
    school in conducting and coordinating drills

Final Thoughts
  • Schools are encouraged not to conduct drills
    until receipt of policy packet
  • Drills must be coordinated with emergency
    management coordinators and emergency responders
  • Drills conducted without coordination of
    emergency managers and emergency responders will
    not be considered complete under this legislation
  • Only one drill will be required for this school
    year (2006-2007) because of late receipt of
    policy packet
  • Beginning September 2007, two drills will be
    required
