Haleyville's first RR
This was the first Railroad built for business
people to travel. It was called Davis Crossings
and it was built in the 1800s. We still use
these tracks today. On the other side of these
RR was another town.

Haley's Home
This was the home of Walker W. Haley. It was
built in 1908 and it burned in 1971.

Fred's 2002
Today were the Haleys home was. Now is home to
Fred's. Which was recently built.

On far left, perched on a new home sewing
machine is Charles. L Haley and Walker Haley is
standing in aisle, Third from the right.

Cleere Hotel in early 1900s
First Cleere Hotel out of two. Two story wooden
structure and it burned in 1916. Mainly served
for RR passengers.

This was the second Cleere Hotel built in
1917. It was torn down in 1980 and operated as a
nursing home. This hotel was known as
hospitality and outstanding food.

The cotton gin in the 1920s. This pictures shows
wagons of cotton waiting at the Haleyville gin.
40 of Haleyvilles income came from cotton,40
from RR and industry, 10 from crossties and
lumber, 10 from chicken, eggs and produce.

placed on the door indicating locally, this is a
dead place.

Mineral Springs Hotel Club house
This was built across the hollow from the
Home Stead Restaurant of recent years to serve
folks who come to drink mineral water.

Godsey Hospital
Built in the 1930s-1945. This was the second
hospital in Haleyville. Was the home to former
Bud Wilson and his children.

Haleyville Depot,c 1907
The IC served Haleyville from 1907-1988.They
changed points between Bham and Jackson
Tenn. Most employees lived here. Haleyville was a
major IC RR town.

Steam engine crossing Quarter -Mile-Long Brushy
Creek Trestle. This was the longest RR trestle in
east built in 1907. Built with 1,209 cross ties
and 36,000 lb. of rails. One worker was killed
building the trestle and another while painting
it in 1939. Nearby is the Rube Burrow Cave,
where legendary outlaw hid after robbing the
train, which slowed to a trestle speed of 20 mph.

IC RR turntable at South Haleyville. Turned cars
and locomotives First installed in 1907 it was
turned by hand or a team of mules. It closed in
1954 when the diesels came.

Shipman Brothers' Store in Haleyville in early
1900s
This store burned and it was replaced in 1911.
The first rural mail carrier. Elmer Shipman and
John Carey.

Built by John Dodd and operated as a hardware
and dry good store.
The Feldmans Department Store Today
it is still standing. in 1914

Cowart - Faulkner Store 1937

Hughes Service Station 1928
Located by Rocky Ravine Park. Built and ran by
Hugh Albright. He owned rental houses across the
street also. He called the area Hughes City

Drewreys Bank is the first bank in Haleyville,
it is still standing. This bank is what started
TRF.

The Printing Express

Sam Lester Vanns Press Shop in 1923. Press while
you wait, was what it said on the corner of the
store. It was located by former office of Dr.. W.
E. Howell

Haleyville Newspaper
This was where they made newspapers. Built in
the early 1900s. Earlier newspapers included
Haleysville Enterprise in 1903. The square deal
in 1906 and Haleyville advertiser in 1922.

Bart J. Cowart
He built the Motor Company near Cleere Hotel he
sold 420 fords at 389.30 each. He ran Cowart
Music and Jewelry shop, served as State Senator
and commercial construction.

Ford built strong to last long
This is the Moreland couple that just bought
their new Ford. They were the first one to buy a
ford in Haleyville. On the wheel cover it is
noted that another new ford goes 60 mph. This car
was bought from Cowart Motor Co.

Baptist Church
This was the first Baptist Church in
Haleyville. Built in 1902. Valued for 400.

First Baptist Church in 1912
This building had plans for 10,000 but the final
cost was 16,000. B. H. Drake donated a lot for
this church.

Home front in the " European War"
July 4,1917 celebration at the Haleyville
square TR F on right and Feldmans . The
Racket Store and McConnells Department Store on
the left. The U.S. entered WWI the next spring
in April 1918.

Drewrey's Brothers' Mercantile Store in
Haleyville 1907-1920
Located on the corner of Twentieth Street and
Ninth Avenue they sold general merchandise
furniture and coffins

John Dodd house
This house was built in Haleyville 1910. In 1989
State Farm Insurance was housed here. Located
between the current Northwest Alabamian
Newspaper.

This was the home of Dr.. William E. and Nancy
Howell on 20th street. It is Now the Haleyville
public Library.

The Fosters Drug Store on 20th street in 1919.

This shows a picture of downtown mainstreet. The
tree in the picture is where teenagers made their
loops when riding around. They would go to the
tree and then to Dairy Freeze where Country
Kitchen is now. At first Haleyville wasnt
nothing but dirt roads.

"undefeated"Football team in 1932.
This is the Haleyville Team in 1932. They beat
Russelville 101-0. They outscored their
opposition to 367-18. Seven of their nine
opponents didnt score( Bear Creek, Hanceville,
Lynn, Russelville, Hackleburg, Brilliant, And
Vina)

Haleyville Musicians 1917
Gathered at TRF Bank are the group of citizens
comprising the Haleyville Concert Band.

Haleyville Welcomes WWI Heroes
On November 11, 1919 Haleyville celebrated the
first Armistice Day honoring WWI veterans in
front of Mose Feldmans store.
