Presidents Report

  • kitchen cupboards refaced
  • kitchen repaired after break in
  • replacement of shingles on storage shed
  • Funds for all these upgrades provided by the City
    over and above the base budget of the Association

Treasurer Report
  • Moved from a cash-accounting system to a
    program-based accounting system
  • Designed to show the actual costs of each program
    we run and the relation to the budget we get from
    the city
  • Over to Nadine

Ice rink report
  • Oral report from Wayne on ice costs and the
    outdoor hockey program
  • All volunteers committed to a minimum of 10
    community service hours in the canteen
  • Ice Contractor co-ordinated and supervised the
    operation of the canteen
  • Local Beavers were again hosted and provided with
    hot chocolate

Soccer report
  • AGM report
  • 314 registered for Dunrobin HL and Micro soccer,
    532 programmed hours
  • 17 less than 2007
  • 307 actually played when you take into account
    refunds, transfers
  • 20 teams (Micro to U18)
  • program incurred a loss - approx. 4K
  • Approval of minor capital grant to install a
    screen at the of the soccer field to prevent
    balls from going into the swamp

Canada Day
  • About 1000 people attended fireworks
  • About 400 people where in attendance for the
    early part of the day
  • Garage sale was a new feature
  • Introduced Sammys Pizza to the menu
  • Used local vendor to provide air bounce and kids
    games
  • No grants were successful so DCA funded the
    entire event
  • Special thanks to the members of the other
    Community Associations who volunteered time,
    tents and BBQ to make our event successful
  • Good feedback on event, seeing more people from
    other communities attending the event
  • Local Youth Talent Showcase was well received and
    should be expanded in the future
  • Fabulous Flashbax were a hit
  • Major source of volunteer hours for high school
    youth from both local high schools

Softball report
  • 68 players on 6 teams
  • Each played 12 games over the 6 week season
  • Each team played one home and one away game each
    week
  • Season started May 12 and ended June 21
  • Mite season end tournament hosted for third
    seasons
  • 3 new coaches and saw an increase in
    participation
  • Umpires needed for the upcoming season

Garage Sale
  • Two rounds June 21 and July 1 donations for
    cancer in West Carleton
  • Youth volunteers received community service hours
    as they helped through the day
  • Proceeds donated to Friends of Hospice to
    facilitate transportation of cancer patients
  • Arrangements were made with Canadian Diabetes
    Association to pickup the remaining goods,
    unfortunately the garbage service was too
    efficient, so they ended up making a donation to
    CDA on our behalf

Operations and maintenance
  • Oral report from Paul Humphries
  • Due increased rentals of the centre the DCA hired
    a cleaner to ensure that the building was clean
    and ready to use

City of Ottawa Programming at the DCC
  • This has been a very important partnership that
    has developed over the last number of years as
    the DCA has worked with recreation programmers at
    the City of Ottawa to bring in programming to the
    DCC
  • Soccer and T-ball ( Spring, Summer and Fall)
  • Yoga (Spring, Summer and Fall)
  • Dinner and a Movie ( Spring and Fall ) youth
  • Kinder Kids (Summer)
  • Crafty kids (Summer)
  • Travel Camp (Summer)
  • Summer camps
  • More programs to added in the 2009-2010 program
    year

Youth Connexion
  • A program developed by the City of Ottawa to
    develop Youth Leaders in local communities
  • Programming by youth for youth
  • Community service hours
  • Employment opportunities within our own community
