5MOSIS Phase I State ID
- June 2005 MOSIS State ID system was put into
place. - On-line web based system allows for batch uploads
as well as on-line data entry submissions. - Randomly assigns a 10 digit ID to the student.
The system is used ONLY to manage the ID for the
student. - Any student PK-12 receiving services from the
district should receive a MOSIS ID. - All districts were participating within 5 months
of implementation and over one million IDs have
been assigned.

- October 2005 MOSIS Pre-Coding was implemented.
- On-line web based system allows for batch uploads
with one file per district. - This system has been used for two years to
provide the state with student demographic data
for pre-coding various state assessments. - For 2007 over 90 of districts voluntarily
participated.

11- Q Should my PK students have MOSIS IDs?
- A YES use the 4 digit school code of the
appropriate elementary school, if the district
does not have a building code for a pre-school. - Q How often should I update the information for
the MOSIS ID? - A Districts should upload a batch file as
frequently as needed. Minimally the beginning of
each semester or cycle. - Q How can I make a change to a student. For
example if DOB is wrong or a name change. - A By either uploading the student in a batch
file OR using the Enter Individual Student
option.

- The on-line process is the same one used for the
MAP Pre-Coding. - The district submission needs to be one file for
the entire district. - The user will logon the DESE web application
login screen, choose the Missouri Student
Information System (MOSIS) option, Agree to the
security notification and then choose the
appropriate component.

Steps
- Collect and enter data into local systems.
- Extract data out of local systems.
- Validate data extracted from local systems.
- Merge extracted data into district level
datasets.(if necessary) - Create trials by uploading datasets to the online
MOSIS Data Collection System. - Correct errors and review warnings in the created
trial. - Certify created trials.

- Always desirable to correct data as close to the
source as possible. - Download trial and correct data via text editor
or spreadsheet application. - Microsoft Excel can alter data and must be used
