FISHING BOATS THAT RESCUED DANISH JEWS

RESCUED DANISH JEWS ON FISHING BOATS
The Danish Jews were smuggled across the sea in
fishing boats such as this. They were usually
hidden below the deck with supplies and possibly
dead fish. They were taken across the Baltic Sea
to hopefully make it safely to Sweden.

RESCUING THE DANISH JEWS
  • If a fishing boat was caught having Jews on
board, the Nazis would either take them to a
nearby camp, where theyd most likely be punished,
or theyd kill them all on the spot.
  • Sweden, which was neutral through out the war,
was a big help in the rescuing of Jews. Some
provided places for them to sleep, eat, and live
so that theyd be safe until the war was through.
  • The map on the next page displays the areas
invaded in Denmark and areas of protection in
    neutral Sweden.

DANISH JEWS RESCUED
  • Because of the courageous citizens who helped
smuggle the Danish Jews, approximately 6,000 to
8,000 Danish Jews were saved from the Nazis and
some of the terrors of WWII.
