The Tundras Habitat

• The weather at the tundra is very chilly.
  During the Winter it is the Coldest, and it is
  snowy. The plants have a hard time growing,
  because of this freezing weather. During the
  months of the Summer, the ice starts to thaw out,
  and this is when the plants can start to
  reproduce, and grow. The types of soil on the
  tundra is what causes these things to happen.
  Even though the ice thaws out, some of it
  doesnt. Permafrost is a layer of soil that stays
  frozen all year. The top section of soil is the
  one that does thaw out, and this lets some of the
  plants grow. The tundra weather stays cold most
  of the year. The tundras major land formation is
  mountains.

The Alpine Tundras Habitat

• The alpine tundra is just a different tundra.
  The climate there is very harsh. It is so harsh
  that the winds can get up to 100 mph (miles per
  hour)! It is very cold and snowy. At some places
  found here, the snow stays, and the frost-free
  season is usually about one and a half months per
  year. The major land formation here is also
  mountains.

Tundra Animals

• Polar bears- Polar bears eat fish, berries,
  birds, leaves, and small and large animals.

- Snowy owls- Snowy owls can be found in
Greenland, Northern Eurasia, and arctic Canada.
- Tundra swan- The tundra swan lives in swamps,
marshes, and eats aquatic plants.

Tundra Plants

• - Lichen- Lichen are plants that are not usual
  plants. They grow on the outside of rocks. It can
  turn varieties of colors in Autumn, and are made
  up of algae, and fungus.

• Cushion plants- Cushion plants grow in a tight
  clump, so they look like cushion. They are
• common to grow in the tundra, where they are
  protected from the freezing atmosphere.

- Cotton grass- Cotton grasses seeds are spread
all over the tundra. Example Dandelion
- Low growing shrubs- Low growing shrubs live in
the alpine tundra, and they grow on the high
mountaintops. If a piece of trash covers it, it
will die in just a few weeks.

Locations of the Tundra and Alpine Tundra
Tundra
The tundra is found near the North Pole, which is
at the top of the Earth. This part of the world
covers a fifth of the Earths surface.
Alpine Tundra
You can find the alpine tundra is in the Indian
Peaks region of Colorado.

Resources on the Tundra

• The tundra is also a place where oil drilling
  and mining has destroyed some spots. This is
  dangerous to the tundra, because it pollutes the
  ground, air, and water. The plants cant live
  around the spots where oil mining and drilling,
  because they wont survive. If people are working
  on mining and drilling, they could accidently
  cause an oil spillage, which is the greatest bad
  thing to do. It is really bad, because the things
  that it can cause are killing animals that
  come close to the spill spot, and it pollutes the
  ground, and the water. For maybe more than 10
  years, plants cant grow, and animals will not
  return to the place where the oil spilled. I
  would never want this to happen anywhere, but
  people make mistakes.

Additional Facts about the Tundra

• The tundra has a lot more facts, and here are
  some of them. The tundra has no trees. It can
  also be called a frozen dessert. At the tundra ,
  most of the year, there is a longer night than
  day, and many animals migrate to the tundra in
  the summer.
