Title: IR illuminator (for night vision)

1
THE MYSTERY OF NIGHT VISION
  • IR Illuminator

2
Agenda
  • Introduction
  • Overview of light spectrum
  • Day/Night Optical Camera
  • Day/Night Optical Camera with IR illuminator
  • Comparing IR optical camera and Thermal imaging
    camera

3
Introduction
  • Night Vision sounds confusing when it is
compared with day/night optical camera with
    thermal image cameras.
  • This presentation will help you identify the best
camera as per your requirement and help you judge
the resolution that a camera is supposed to have.

4
Light spectrum(Range of light)
  • Spectrum is measured in Wavelength or bandwidth.
  • Wavelength is measured in Nanometers(nm).
  • 1nm1 x 10-9meters

5
  • The above chart shows
  • Shorter the wavelength higher the frequency.
  • Visible portion 350 nm to 750 nm

6
Two types of camera
  • Optimal Camera
  • Can see wide spectrum than our eye.
  • Visible to eye 350 nm to
  • 750 nm
  • Optimal camera sensor
  • can see750 nm to 950 nm.
  • Total range they can see
  • 350 nm to 950 nm
  • Thermal Imaging cameras
  • They can see at a lower range
  • then a optimal camera. They
  • can take a light from the
  • object itself so they work at a
  • range of 14000 nm

7
Day/Night Optical camera
  • As the name suggests they can be see during day
    as well as night.
  • During night they switch to low light mode. This
light is taken from the moon. They are IR
    sensitive at night.
  • 1 lux is the night from the full moon. Cameras
can see even in 0.05 lux of light.
  • Measured in TV lines or pixels
  • Analog cameras(TV lines resolution) 420 or 500
    lines
  • IP camera(Pixel resolution) 6404 80 or 12801024

40 pixels/Ft to identify the number on a license
plate.
8
Day/Night Optical Camera with IR illuminator
  • IR illuminator with the optimal camera provides a
high quality of image even at a low light.
  • Beside is an IR illuminator.
  • At night IR helps to detect things at 14000ft(4.5
    km)

9
Comparison between IR optical cameras and
Thermal cameras
  • Detection 10 pixels
  • Recognition 30 pixels
  • Identification 40 pixels
  • Cost 300 onwards
  • Used in Home Security and public security
  • Detection4-5 pixels
  • Recognition 6-9 pixels
  • Identification 10-16 pixels
  • Cost 25000 onwards
  • Used in Defense security
