To multiply 2 decimal numbers
  • Multiply as you would whole numbers
  • Count the total number of digits to the right of
    the decimal points in the 2 numbers being
    multiplied. Place the decimal point in the
    product so that it has that same number of
    decimal places.

To divide 2 decimal numbers
  • Use the same form as in dividing 2 whole numbers
  • Multiply both divisor and dividend by a power of
    10 (move the decimal point) that makes the
    divisor a whole number.
  • Divide as you would with whole numbers, and place
    the decimal point in the quotient directly above
    the decimal point in the dividend.
