Name Hour Drawing Worksheet 4, Shapes in
Patterns The basic shapes of plane geometry (the
circle, the square, and the triangle) can be
combined to form patterns. These patterns create
designs. Quilt patterns that were created by
pioneers are an example of how shapes can be used
in design. Frank Lloyd Wright, one of Americas
most famous architects, used quilt design ideas
to make stained glass windows. Below is a
photograph of one of those windows. He used
patterns of red, blue, green, blue, black and
clear glass. Look over the picture of the window
and answer the following questions. 16. Which
basic geometric shape is missing? 17. Wright
put together some basic shapes to hide a familiar
object within the window. What is the hidden
object?

Drawing Quilts in PowerPoint Popular quilt
patterns will be used to practice the use of the
freeform tool, rotate and flip tools,
duplicating, and fill effects. This practice
will also help you see how the basic shapes of
plane geometry -- circle, triangle, square -- can
be used to create patterns. 18. The trapezoid
and square are provided for the SPOOL quilt
block. a. Use CTRL - D to duplicate three more
trapezoids. b. Use DRAW - ROTATE or FLIP to
position the trapezoid in the correct direction.
c. Move the trapezoids and square on top of the
white square to make the pattern. d. Use Fill
Effects - Gradients, Texture, and/or Patterns to
finish your quilt block
19.The green and white trapezoids and green
triangle are provided for the quilt block. a.
Change the green triangle and the green trapezoid
to your favorite dark color (do not use
black). b. Change the white trapezoid to your
favorite light color (do not use white). c. Move
the triangles and trapezoids to the side. d.
Draw four squares on top of the black white
ones. Change two to the dark color and two to
the light color. e. Use CTRL - D to duplicate
three more triangles, three more dark trapezoids,
and three more light trapezoids. f. Change the
color of two triangles to your favorite light
color. g. Use DRAW - ROTATE or FLIP Rotate
Left (or Right) to position the triangles in the
correct direction. h. Use DRAW FREE ROTATE
to position the trapezoids in the correct
direction. i. Move the trapezoids and triangles
on top of the white/black squares to recreate the
Spider Web pattern.

  • Draw your copy of this pattern in the grid below.
  • b. Use the rectangle basic shape tool to draw the
squares and rectangles that are needed.
  • c. Use the Line - Freeform tool to draw the
    shapes for each triangle.
