Milling Machines
A Miller is a device which is used for the
shaping of metals and other solids. It consists
of a coating cutter which rotates about the
spindle axis and a table which the thing you are
milling is fixed to, Both the cutter and table
move relative to each other to create the path
along which the material is to be removed. The
movement is usually very precise and is
controlled using a number of screws affixed to
the table.

Milling Machines CNC
  • CNC milling machines are widely used throughout
the manufacture industry, they can be used for a
    massive number of processes
  • Slot cutting
  • Planing
  • Drilling
  • Diesinking
  • Rebating
  • Routing
  • A cutting lubricant is often sprayed into the
cutting area to cool the cutting site and
lubricate it, this also washes away the swarf.

4
Turning
  • The turning process takes place using a lathe,
where a piece of work is rotated to produce round
    shape.
  • Lathes can be operated manually or using CNC
    (Computer Numerical Control)
  • There are two main types of lathe, the wood lathe
and the metal lathe. In each type of lathe the
main principle is similar, the work is fixed to a
rotating chuck and a cutting tool is used to cut
    diameters and depths.

5
Metal Lathe
  • On a metal lathe the work is fixed to a chuck
similar to that of a pillar drill, but unlike a
pillar drill the work rotates horizontally.
  • The work is shaped with a sharp cutting blade
which is able to move along two axis. Enabling it
to change the diameter of the work or to cut
    depths.

6
Wood Lathe
  • A wood lathe is similar to a metal lathe.
  • The main difference is the cutting tool.
  • On a wood lathe the work is shaped using a
variety of chisels which are each suited to a
particular job. The chisel is rested on the tool
rest, and pressed against the work to shape it.
